Default Car acting weird... "TOP NOT SECURE " and trunk not opening

On break went to get a coffee its saying TOP NOT SECURE (unlatched and re latched top still same)

When i left work i opened trunk to put my stuff in closed it. Realized i forgot to put something in and then trunk wouldn't open from fob and inside car. Got TOP NOT SECURE message again. Drove home put gas still nothing. Opened it with key and closed it tried again nothing. after getting gas TOP NOT SECURE message didn't come back.

I got home parked it shut it off and now trunk opens???

Really reaching here but I'm gonna go with it being something related to the battery.

I never knew the DIC had a 'top not secure' message, that's a new one for me.

You may want to check the top protector panel in the trunk - one of the rings on the ends of the panel may have loosened when you put the first load of stuff in the trunk - they can be finickey......
Enjoy,

Along with the partition the sensor on the windshield header may be getting dirty or corroded or could be early signs that one of the other six sensors may be going out.

Could just be a momentary glitch too.

Wow did not know that it had sensors for that. That feature would have saved me a t-top in my 2001 trans am. That Mustang always thought he won that street race, but I was pulling over because my top flew away.

It's only on convertibles.

I had the same problem with my 05 Vert, it was a ''something'' that had shiftef just a bit and would not make a good contact. One safety sensor out just a touch and this is what happens.

There is a small limit switch in the hole where the top piece fits on top of the windshield on the passenger side. If the top piece is not down in this hole, that message is displayed. That switch is not working properly. If the top is not either all the way up or all the way down, the system will not allow opening of the trunk. Get in there and check that switch, maybe a bit of contact cleaner.

CORRECTION, the limit switch is on the driver's side...with a small screwdriver, you can push it and hear it clicking when it connects....

I agree with this diagnosis.

The convertible lid and trunk cannot be allowed to open at the same time because of interference, (they would hit) and if the sensor indicates that the top is not secured at the windshield, that part may be tied in with the convertible lid somehow sensor-wise.

Yup, that tab is the limit switch. Use a small screwdriver to push it in and see if you can hear it click....that switch will cause the DIC message if it is not working right..

I found the one in the trunk for the top protector. So where are the rest of the sensors located and how many is there ? I tried the one on the drive side winshield with the top not secure msg on the dic - when I push it it clicks and makes the dic beep but message does not go away. Where can I get a cheap tech 2 from? Thx

Agreed, sounds like batt voltage may be the root cause.
