Read the sticky about this at the top of this forum. What fixed it for me was shrink tubing over the male pins. After I did that I've not heard one squeak from my top and it's off and on a lot.
Good luck.
Good luck.

So has this "issue" been fixed in the newer cars? My car is currently being built.
I see that customer service reps are present in the forums so I find it ridiculous that GM doesn't know about this and hasn't done a permanent fix on production cars.

It would help considerably on older cars if folks would do a little preventative maintenance and keep the gaskets of the roof panel lubricated as recommended. It's a removable roof. By it's nature it needs to be able to move and some noise is pretty much always going to be there under different temperature situations as the two dissimilar materials come in to thermal equilibrium.

GM knows a great deal about this issue. The issue was addressed in 2008 on production cars with a change to the latch handle and a thorough service bulletin to help dealers combat issues in older cars.

Weatherstrips
Silicone grease on weatherstrips will make them last
longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak. Apply
silicone grease with a clean cloth. During very cold,
damp weather frequent application may be required.
See Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 6-12.

Lube will help. Recommended in the manual:

Thanks guys for all of the info about the creaking you’re experiencing in your Vettes. I apologize for that. I just wanted you to know, though, that I’ve been documenting what everyone’s been saying and it will be passed on.
Thanks,

Chris Aude is probably the best contact as he was involved for over a year with the handle redesign in 2008.

e clips
Just picked up a 2008 coupe (Dec 2007 build) last Friday.
The car had 1,250 miles on it. Immediately noticed the snap, crackle, pop of the top.
Read the sticky and picked up the 5/32" e clips. Drove it 500 miles from Connecticut to Virginia. We think we heard it pop twice. Couldn't tell for sure since we were on bad roads both times. Z-51 equipped didn't help
Trying to find an Ace hardware with the Super Lube in stock.
