Looking for a little extra rumble...
Ok, so I am looking to add a little extra rumble to my ride. On my 06 I cheaped out and got some Flowmasters (~$400) and you get what you pay for. I liked the sound at idle and around town, but the highway was brutal. Nothing that my sound system couldn't cover up, but still...
After reading countless threads, I am thinking Borla or Corsa, touring model, around $1200.
I am not looking for any added HP - I just want a little bit more aggressive sound and great looks.
So a couple of questions:
1. Do I need to spring an extra $400 for an x-pipe? I am thinking no, but thought I'd ask.
2. If I do a CAI, how much impact would that have on the sound? I am guessing it will make it louder?
Any other ideas or suggestions before I pull this trigger?

Asking a question about mufflers is like saying "I'm going to buy a new CD this week-end. Should I buy classical, hard rock or country?" You'll get many opinions but none of them answer the question because your ears are different and what is acceptable and pleasant to you will not be for the next guy. The best bet is to find a sound you like and beg a ride from the owner as what sounds great from outside may not be tolerable on the inside.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, I figured exhaust tone tolerance is a subjective thing. But reading other people's opinions helps me formulate my own.
I'll do some research on the BB fusions, and save myself the coin of the x pipe and CAI. I recall a set of Corsas on a 06 Coupe that was very sweet. Can't recall the exact model though, but they looked and sounded awesome. I've also had good experiences with Borla.
Decisions, decisions...

I'm seriously considering either the Corsa Extreme or Sport. The Mamotorworks thing in September, I think they have Corsa there doing the installations which I'm planning on going too for just this.

Is the extreme just louder than the sport? I like the sound of the extreme I heard on a YouTube video on another thread, but I fear it may be too much.

I very recently got to ride in a Corvette with the Extreme. It actually sounded very nice too me. When the owner took his foot off the gas, it was quiet in there. Seemed that during normal driving, all was good and when he was on the fuel, it was a monster.

I am tempted to go with the Extreme, but somehow I am think I am going to chicken out an go with a Touring. But the comment about sounding like a european car got me thinking...

I read somewhere that if you go with Borla and do not get the X-Pipe that you will hear the crackling exhaust ignition on deceleration. If you install the X-pipe no crackling. I went with the X-pipe on the Borla ATAK system because the crackle may be fun at first I think it would drive me crazy stoplight after stoplight.

Another consideration is that the original Corsas for the '06 A6 had the center tunnel resonators. I don't know how much different that made it sound but I imagine it made some difference.
