"The Z06s Outlook could become similarly bleak in the monrh ahead,
If the latest rumors are to be believed. The most sensational has the 505hp LS7 landing on the Grand Sport options list, where it would be available with a choice of transmissions and even in a convertible"

Guys there has to be a reason GM doesn't have a removable top on the Z06. I don't think there's any way they'd ever put an LS7 in a GS. We know that it's doable, and that there are plenty of GS and base cars pushing significantly more power than a Z, but that doesn't mean GM has a reason to stand behind it and let customers take it to the track.

Just checked the online order and reference system for 2012 Corvette and only engine available for the base and GS versions are the LS3, so the only chance it could happen would be in the 2013 - and I don't think it will happen just someones dream

After all the hoopla and details we got at the Bash this April, no way there will be an additional engine available for 2012 GS.
But...
If the C7 gets delayed until MY 2015 or so, then just maybe...

1) From what I have read the Z06 and ZR1 are not offered with a removable top because the aluminum frame is not strong enough and needs the extra support of a fixed roof.
2) I have also read that the Corvettes that GM race are steel frames because the steel frame is a "lot" stronger and they need the car/frame as stiff as possible.
So it looks to me that a GS (let the sun shine in) with most of the Z06 stuff anyway and the steel frame would handle the 427 "and" an automatic would make it a REAL kick a$$/take no prisoners car and a nice daily driver to booth.
EDIT: Hell lets also offer the ZR1 engine!!! and be done with it! but add a little more hp for the extra 100 lbs. or so, an auto if wanted and Waaa-laaa the everything in one perfect car.
Z06 engine= Grand Sport S (Super)
ZR1 engine= Grand Sport S+ or SC (Super-Charged)
Now these "Bad Boys" would sell like hot cakes!!!
