Default On Star subscription savings?

Does anyone have experience in how to reduce the on star subscription once the year is up? I only use it on occasion and only in the summer. Not a DD but a weekend warrior.

Either you're making fun of XM threads or you've mixed up OnStar & XM radio.

Do you guys keep on star in the summer and then cancel it in the winter if not driving it?

If you call them, they will give you a reduction on the spot from $299 to $249 for the year. They maybe would go lower. It seems like a waste to have it if your car is parked six months out of the year - hadn't thought of month to month.

That's for XM, not On Star!

I was getting billed over $20 a month. I recently called OnStar and told them I didn't drive the car that much and asked for a reduced rate. They reduced it to $12.99 a month

While on the phone with ONSTAR renewing coverage on my wife's car I mentioned my Corvette and that I rarely drove it in the winter months and asked if there was a less expensive rate. I was told on a Corvette they could extend the expiration date by up to six months to help justify the cost of the service. I graciously accepted a four month extension.

I would just give Onstar a call and see what they can offer.

Good luck out there.

Remember that there are basically 2 different packages. The package with the unlimited directions is obviously more expensive than just the hands free calling and whatever else goes with it.

Called On Star yesterday. I asked if they would extend my subscription thru October. (My new Vette subscription ends on July 15th.) I explained it was for my Vette which is not driven past October since I live in Northern Minnesota. I like the download feature that sends driving info to my navigation system. After being put on hold they said they couldn't do that. It just doesn't make sense. No wonder this economy is the way it is.

No offense but you're trying to get extended service after the fact
I have 2 vehicles with OnStar and called about a discount since I don't drive the DD much in Summer having the Vette.
And, the Vette stays in the garage for Winter.
Explained this to OnStar and they offered me a plan where I pay $148.xx for each vehicle and get 14 Months service for each Vehicle.

And, when I put the Vette away for winter, I can call OnStar and they will suspend Service until I call back in the Spring.
They will then re-Activate the Vette's OnStar and add how ever many months the service was suspended onto the end of the Original expiration date.
So, if the Vette was in the garage for 4 months, the OnStar service would last for 18 months before I have to renew.
This is my 2nd time renewing both vehicles with this discounted plan
YMMV, but that's my experience

If the OP wants to keep at least basic OnStar, then the Safe & Sound option for 3-years is the cheapest way out. Otherwise, cancel.

I just renewed today with no hassels. I explained that this is a very low mileage vehicle and they offered me the special. I paid $149 tax for a year and they threw in the extra 2 months. They also rolled over my calling minutes.

All I did was tell them that I am going to quit as I don't really need it (was bluffing them) they dropped my monthly fee from $26.80 to $17.80 (cdn rates differ from US) plus gave me two free months and of course rolled over my minutes. No trying to plead with them, they just came right out and offered it. I took it.

Forgot to call last week to renew my safe and sound subscription and discovered an $18.95 monthly charge on my credit card for the first month of a month-to-month subscription. Told them I put only 3000-4000 miles per year on the 'Vette and wouldn't pay $228/year for Onstar. They gave me a 14-month offer for $148.92 including tax.
