Default alignment

Any suggestions on where to get an alignment done? A Dealer or maybe a tire store like goodyear or tire kingdom? Want to get it done right before the tires start showing the effects.

but if you want a generic suggestion, contact the local road racers, autocrossers, etc. since they frequently need/use good alignment shops. or, contact your local corvette club. but where you live may give you some specific suggestions as people do know places on here.

There are two things you never want a dealer to do for you:

1) A detail
2) An alignment

You will only end up paying someone else to fix what the dealer did.

I've read on here that Firestone does a Life time alignment.

Take in the Pfadt numbers, where ever you go.

I took our 2014 GS to our local GM dealer. I was very satisfied and now, 4500 miles later, Goodyear RF's seem to be wearing correctly for the garbage that they are.

People sit down; I'm going to get my car realigned. My right front tire is showing signs of wearing the inner edge. I don't do unnecessary maintenance, as most know, so I am convinced it is necessary. Now to find a shop capable of performing alignment without ripping up the air dam or scraping the underside of the rocker panels. I live in the Harrisburg PA area.

I get it done at my local dealer. I have them use the CENTER of the OEM specs (Make sure it says w/XFA option at the top if you have a GS). It handles better than Pfadt's street specs and no issues with abnormal wear.

Nice road trip to:

Performance Automotive
3239 Phoenixville Pike
Malvern, PA 19355
610-695-9545

Peter Rutkowski & Paul McDonald - Owners

State of the art, built in, floor level alignment rack. These guys are sports car experts. Do lots of Porsche work for track cars. METICULOUS.

Print out the PFADT Street Alignment Specs and take with you.

Are you really in Harrisburg or are you in Manheim?

Some dealers are indeed crummy, but the local dealer does our alignments on their Hunter machine, complete with before & after printouts, and does a nice job.

Once, the tech could not get both front (negative) camber identical, they were different by .1
He worked on it for an extra half hour and apologized profusely for not getting it perfect.

I can live with that.

You're lucky. My 427 needed a steering gear replaced. I took it to a local dealer that has a highly regarded Corvette mechanic. After it was replaced, they told me it needed to be re-aligned. When I picked it up, it pulled left and the steering wheel was no longer centered. I drove it to my alignment guy and he laughed at their supposed "re-alignment" and fixed me up in 20 minutes.

And another vote for NEVER take ANY car to a dealer for an alignment. A dealer specializes in selling cars. 1 out of 100 cars they work on may be for an alignment. A tire store specializes in selling tires. Most of the cars they work on get an alignment. Practice makes perfect. If a dealer screws up an alignment they will still sell cars. If a tire shop screws up an alignment they can be put out of business by the bad reputation they get.

For a good local shop, TireRack has a recommended installer list with reviews. Funny, but I've never seen a dealer on a TireRack recommended list.

Default Alignment

A lot of dealers are selling tires so that does not always apply.
However one of our dealers has done a poor job i.e. damaging rims and not accepting their responsibility etc.
Cady dealer said they would price match not even close otherwise an excellant dealer. Wish they serviced the Corvette

Thanks for the input guys....took it to my local Tire Kingdom, $300 for a 5 year plan....meaning I can take it back whenever I want for the next 5 years. Locally down here in New Orleans, Firestone does not provide anything other than a one time align.
