Default Mecum Auction - Lingenfelter 2009 ZR1 sold for $70K!

When I get the opportunity to care for my 5-month old son (while giving mommy a nap), we usually like to watch the Mecum Auto Auctions on HD Net - he likes the colors and the engine sounds - I like to hear the old stories and see what the classic American cars sell for.

Anyway, we were watching this afternoon and my son starts squealing with delight as a Cyber Gray 2009 ZR1 comes up for sale. I'm thinking it will be bid on for a while, but then it's done in maybe 15 seconds and SOLD at $70K!

Here is the car - anyone know why it went for so cheap?

Are you sure it sold or was that the top bid? Did they slap the "Sold" sticker on it?

I thought maybe it had an accident history or something because it had no reserve.
Seems likes an incredible deal to me - especially for an LPE ZR1!

Guess I know where to shop in the future!

I thought I was the only sick one to sit and watch an auction for hours.. I have DVR and have recorded this weeks worth of Auctions. It started on WED and I think ended yesterday Saturday, it was the spring classic!

I have about 15hrs of MECUM auctions!!! I even record old ones since I forgot about them when they originally came out so i re-watch them again....(sick)

Anyways, I did see that. I dont know although it did sell for 70k I thought it might of had something wrong with it. With out being there its no way to tell if the paint looks good, panel gaps or anything.

They said it have over 700hp! It was suspiciously low priced...

Sure this car was beat up a lot during its life. Not sure how long some of the parts will hold up or how much it will cost to repair them. If you are a mechanic, probably a great deal, if not, I would be a bit leary.

And you know this how??A car factory built at 638 HP,then sent to a pro shop, and a well know one at that, for a few additional HP and you say it's beat to hell?? I doubt that and even it it was raced some,I'm sure it can handle that with no problem. The people buying these thing aren't stupid, nor a re the sellers.

As for the price,I guess the seller was hard up for money or real world pricing on a ZR1 HAS TAKEN A MAJOR HIT!!!

Hey, I do not know for sure this car was beat up, but if you read the bio, it does appear to have a lot of track time.

Have a cup of coffee and relax,.

It would have to be pretty damn beat up to go for that. Even so, I'm guessing it was a no-reserve sale that had nobody else in the room who really wanted one badly.

Since it sold for $70,000.00 "Plus fees" what is the buyer's premium at Mecum?

Check out Mecum's web site for all the fees involved.

On a no reserve it is 5% for the seller and 6% for the buyer.

I saw this car in person earlier in the week and it looked pretty nice to me. I didn't spend the time to look too closely as there were just so many cars there to see.

Good deal for the buyer, but also seems pretty reasonable. This is a 2 year old Vette.. (actually 3 year old considering the 2012's are on the lot) that has depreciated in a fashion that the way a Vette depreciates. That Lingenfelter has worked his magic on it, is pretty much the equivalent of someone throwing serious mods onto their Vette.. and then trying to sell it. And we all know what happens to a modded car when its sold: That the owner usually takes a serious loss on their initial investment.

Knowing that the car has been ran hard "Standing mile competition much??" also would bring up concerns about reliability and future problems. The more realistic you look at it.. the price wasnt far off what its truly worth.

It actually was THE Lingenfelter ZR1 with the 710hp package. It was their car that they sold, along with several others including an E-force 05 C6 that would be quite the sleeper. Tim @ LPE posted a link back to Lingenfelter's site in the C6 ZR1 section. Somebody got a great deal, even though the description says it was driven at the Texas Mile and to several events. No mileage listed & definitely no warranty anymore - looks low to me. Interesting that they only left it up for auction a short time. Mecum's auction practices seem strange at times.

Another 09 ZR1 with 800 miles according to listing sold for only $91500. Seems low to me by a few $k as well considering mileage.
