Default Fuel Rail Cover Insulation

I had my fuel rail covers sent out to be painted and when I got them back the painter did not put the insulation back on . Can they be installed without the insulation or will the heat of the engine harm the covers .

Noise damping material - replace if you want, or not.

The foam on the back of the FRC's is more for sound than heat. The insulation is there to reduce valvetrain noise. As long as the painter used the correct paint, you shouldn't have any problems. The LS2 FRC's didn't have any insulation on the back, nor did the LS1 prior. It was added to the LS3 at the same time the Helmholtz resonator and plenum "skullcap" was added in 2008.

Thanks for the explanation, I thought I was missing something with my LS2.

I have an 05 and having problems with the engine is worm and I try to start it up. It turns over just fine and there is fuel pressure but it takes 2 to 3 seconds to start. Once running it is fine. When cold it starts right up. I felt the cross over part of my fuel real yesterday after arriving at a car show and it was hot enough that my finger could not stay on it long. Could I have some kind of "vapor lock" going on in the fuel rail? If so would insulation solve the problem?

The FRC's don't get all that hot, They sit away from the engine and have ventilation from all sides, so I don't think you have anything to worry about, I repainted mine and have been on for months now without any issues !
