Last time I was there was '06 and they were still running the XLR on the other line in there. I know sales were really slow, therefore at that time, they were only producing 8 cars a day. Go figure, $98k for a car just a lot like the Corvette and supposedly fancied up a bit...but in my opinion, those few buyers were getting a lot less car for a whole lot more money. Did the XLR line shut down since? Guessing it did but I wouldn't know. I'll be there on the 26th of this month for the American Warrior Airlift and will ask about that line and will let you all know what the response is.

Burning Brakes
Eldon Renaud, president of Local 2164 of the United Auto Workers, said the mood at the plant is jubilant.
“I am assuming it will be the next generation Corvette that we will be making,” Renaud said. “At times we were on pins and needles about whether or not this plant would continue to build a car because the bar is constantly being raised.”
The C7 is scheduled to be a 2014 model, so production would begin in 2013.
Really??

Stingray!
I do recall Motor Trend back in 2006 saying that Chevrolet had plans of doing a Stingray version of the saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice. I could see this announcement being a more affordable Corvette Stingray model with a V-6 to attract younger buyers.......Leaving the Grand Sport,
Z06 and ZR1 models for C7 model????

GM: 250 jobs to be added at Corvette plant
(AP) – 10 minutes ago
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — General Motors is investing $131 million in the Kentucky plant that assembles the Corvette, creating 250 new jobs.
Mark Reuss (ROOS), GM's North America president, made the announcement Wednesday at the south-central Kentucky plant with Gov. Steve Beshear and local officials.
GM says the investment will support production of the next-generation Corvette. The Bowling Green plant will continue building the current Corvette for at least the next two model years.
Nearly 400 production workers now assemble Corvettes. Chevrolet spokesman David Caldwell says some of the 250 jobs created might be filled by a pool of laid-off workers.
The plant has been home to Corvette production since 1981. Caldwell says at the plant's peak in the 1980s, it employed 1,000 people.
