Default How to use IPOD without nav or XM??

I've been searching endlessly to find a solution! Is there any way you can connect your IPOD in a corvette that doesn't have navigation or XM?

I know I have the option of an FM transmitter, and of course I can swap the radio unit for one that has a direct input. Any other solutions somebody has thought of? Thanks! much appreciated

I have been checking around as well and haven't found anything that would be a suitable replacement. I plan to swap out the factory unit with an aftermarket piece. They offer more options for connectivity as opposed to working with the factory units that are not equipped with an auxiliary jack.

I checked out everything and the only thing that didn't involve switching out the HU or tapping into the XM was the FM transmitter.

I use it and yes, it sucks, but I guess it's OK for the time being.

Do you have this little hole next to your CD player slot? If so - just run a 3.5mm cable from your Ipod to it and you are done. Otherwise get a PAL and that works with any radio I believe.

I had an 06 with the stock head unit. I installed and Alpine with the Ipod connection in early 07. After about a year, I was getting some electronic gremlins. The Alpine was causing some aftermarket communication issues, causing some codes.

Removed the Alpine, installed an 08 head unit with the front Aux jack. Had it married to the computer, works great.

I bought a PX-AMG adapter but after two trips to the dealer to try and enable it (it mimics the XM unit or something), was unable to make it work with my 07 1LT coupe. I ended up buying a Pioneer HU pre-wired from Double D Mods. I am much happier with the new HU and I can now control my iPhone from the radio and even watch a DVD if I want. Only when stopped, of course. Since Dennis pre-wired the unit, the install was a cinch using instructions from the forum. I told myself the HU was all I was doing but now I am thinking about speakers...LOL. It's endless.

For what it's worth, i wanted to stay with the factory HU. I tried 2 different ipod integration solutions before the PAL was available.

They both stunk. The PAL does the best it can with the limited interactions an outside device can have with the standard factory HUs. My experience, the PAL solution is much more reliable and stable.

Ray has a bunch of detail including pictures here:

Maybe you could find a stock unit with the AUX jack for cheap in the for sale section and just swap them. That is if you like the system as it sits now and just want the IPOD connection.

For price reference:

Kind of old, but:

When checking into the PAL unit, don't let the very difficult installation of the Version 1 PAL scare you. Ordering a PAL unit and Harness from Ray Kawal makes installing the PAL a very simple, quick, and easy job. With in an hour you will have it installed.

C6 CORVETTE ISimple ISGM575 05-10 Ipod/Iphone install kit

The ISGM575 (PXAMG and PGHGM5) directly connects your iPod to your radio allowing you to browse your music, by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist from the radio controls. This direct connection eliminates the need for noisy FM modulated solutions, and also keeps the iPods internal battery charged. The interface is expandable, by adding the HDRT you will receive digital radio stations that can not be received with a standard tuner. Experience HD Radio and hear FM in CD quality, and AM at FM quality!

$124.99 shipped

we have shipped a couple hundred of these with no issues

Is installation the same as the PAL? Will this work on an '07 1LT w/o Nav/XM?

These solutions are quite overboard, especially if you don't use an iDevice. Really, all I want is a cheap, clean way to add a 3.5mm input jack to my factory non-Nav, non-XM, non-Bose radio.

Basically, add the input jack that the 08+ base radio received. The only way I've seen to add something like this is to splice a switch and relay and then select between the CD player and input jack.
