I think the Paddle Shift came about in the 2006 model year. GM has updated / refined it a few times since then...

I always thought that driving in the "D" setting would give you better gas mileage.
It's the overdrive postion isn't it?

Doesn't retuning your computer void you warranty ??

Yes it does.

Their might be a little improvement in D, not because there's overdrive (there aren't any different gears used whether D or S is used) but because S tends to hold the Vette in the lower gear a little longer before shifting up. The difference in gas mileage, if any at all, would be immeasurable. You're driving style would be a greater factor on your mileage.

A touchy and complex subject, but the short answer is "Yes".

For non-powertrain warranty, or small stuff on the powertrain that isn't very expensive, normally no problem.

For big powertrain repairs, GM will check the ECM program to see if the car has been tuned, and it is said they can tell about previous tunes that have been cancelled.

If you have problems in the engine, not sure if they will check the transmission program.

Yes, there's not much difference between D and S under Normal driving.
But you will notice a nice difference in S mode when you put your foot into it more.
In D mode when more gas is given the trans will shift sooner and softer.
In S mode when more gas is given the trans will shift later and the shift itself will be more pronounced

I have a non-GS 2011 with A6 and the lag is minimal. When I'm on the freeway and want to get on it, I tap the downshift paddle three times as fast as I can and it's in third gear almost immediately after the last tap. It's as fast or faster than a well executed manual 6 to 3 shift (clutch - shift - declutch). This is the worst case situation too, because it shifts faster up and down when the engine speed is faster, and this is with the shifter in "D".

MMC - And just so I'm clear - is that A6 tuned or not?

It feels to me that the "S" mode increases the line pressure in the trans. Anyone know if that is true or not?

Not tuned. Totally stock 2011 A6 with a build date of 2-14-11. I've heard rumors that the transmission programming changes every so often as small improvements are put into production. Don't know if this is true or not, but for driving on the street, I have no complaints about my transmission's responsiveness, and it seems much better than I remember from driving a new 2008 A6 in the past. I'm hoping to hit some road courses in the next few months so it'll be interesting to see if it's also good on a track.

Why would driving in "S" effect anything negatively...street or interstate?

Drive the car in whatever mode you want, lol.

Where is ECS located? I live in FL. Does the tune really make that big of a difference? What does it change? How much does it cost?

In D or S mode, both 5th and 6th gear are overdrive. 4th gear is 1.15:1, not quite straight through.

So, if I have an '07 coupe, couldn't I have it reprogrammed with the new settings (map or whatever) that the newer 2010 coupe has?

Maybe that's the way to go so I don't void my extended GM warranty?

From what I hear, the older A6 trannys can't be given the exact GM program as the new ones, apparently there were also some mechanical changes.

However, there may have been GM programs that are acceptable for your tranny and newer than what you got out of the factory.

Your dealer can tell if there is a newer GM program for your tranny, but he probably does not know if you will actually feel any improvement.

The dealer can flash your tranny to update with your set prog and hardware for your year. The new progs are not backwards compatable.
I had my 06 flashed a couple of years ago and it helped a little, but nowhere near the aftermarket tune.

I wont tune mine until my GMPP dies.
