AH, THE PERPLEXING ?

I have been using Don Johnson at Airbrush Gallery in FL to do my helmets for years. I can only say he's a TRUE ARTIST and his prices are very reasonable. Here is the link to his "RACE HELMET" page, mine is about 1/2 way down the page. http://www.airbrushgallery.com/race-helmets.html And here's one of the pics he shot when completed. First person to recognize where the original artwork is from wins a BIG

That is true talent...although I can imagine spending that $$$ for track parts instead.

For some reason it reminds me of an Album cover. Is that what the artwork is from? Very cool!!

You both get one It is H.R. Giger, at least the back of the the helmet is. It is from a 70's rock album cover of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery". the remaining parts of the helmet are Don Johnson's work to tie-in the Giger graphic.

A little trivia about Giger, he created the creature "Alien" for the feature film. He's a pretty trippy fellow. I met him back home in Hollywood in the mid 90's. http://www.hrgiger.com/

I wanted to get my "brain bucket" painted to depict a brain with all those convoluted surfaces. Never did it, but this made me think about it!

Awesome man.. and yep its DOT approved. Actually I'm going to use the same one I use for trackdays/racing events with my bike. Suomy Spec-1R Extreme. One of the lightest motorcycle helmets you can get! Weighs less than 3lbs, fits awesome, never fogs and has great venting!

I bought this one in Nov 2004:

But organization rules say that no helmets older than 5 years old can be used in their events. So now I'm about to order this one from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Suomy-Extreme-...2623804&sr=8-1

Exact same helmet, just newer.. with a different paint design.

Thats not entirely correct, some HPDE schools are more strict than others. Most will not allow motorcycle helmets. Chin motorsports for example requires a minimum standard of Snell 2005. anything other you cannot use.(unless snell 2010)
And they do check your helmet when you go for tech inspection. Hooked on driving on the other hand has never checked my helmet.
There are reasons for it too, if your car catches fire too, you want a more flame retardent liner in your helmet. I' have crashed at the track and have seen some cars catch fire too. Better to be safe than sorry.
