Default 1yr of free OnStar?

This article says that those of us who didn't continue OnStar after the first free period will be getting another year free. I'll take it if it's free.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/mart...wants-you-back

A related question...Can you put Onstar on 'vacation.' If so, I could end up with closer to two years.

What about those of us who never had a free trial? Can we get a free year too?
Oh, and I saw the commercial they are talking about a couple nights ago. A nice VY C6 leads the heard of GM cars and is the star of the commercial.

I have onstar on my Truck and had it on my Tahoe. The Vette doesn't have it. Personally I like Onstar and will continue paying for it. We use it every now and then so I feel like its worth it.

They already have you, they don't need to give you anything. Ever notice that companies offer reduced rates to new customers while existing customers continue to pay higher rates?

Every GM vehicle that I have purchased from 03 on has had the On Star free trial period. I didn't even use that. Total waste of money for cars that I only put about 1K/yr on.

It isn't about using the service it is about not using it. I have On Star active on my 03 Tahoe and my wife's 08 Malibu. I have about 100 minutes of phone usage that I get each year that I use when in the car or truck. It is much better than a dinky cell phone with a blue tooth sticking in your ear. The other part of On Star and the main reason I have it is the part that I never use. The crash notification thing is fantastic if you are in a serious accident. A co worker was driving his new GMC truck in a No Service area on a two lane back road. A car coming the other way crossed over onto his side of the road and they had a near head on collision with both vehicles going about 50 mph. The truck was totalled with the frame bent right behind the cab. My co worker said the first thing he heard after the collision noise had settled was somebody from On Star saying they had alerted emergency services and help was on the way. The nearest house was a quarter mile away and he would have had trouble walking to it if he hadn't had that On Star subscription. I pay $150 bucks per year on two vehicles just because of that service and I hope I never use it.

The total waste of money is the fact that you even bought the cars...1k a year, now that is a waste of money!!!

Kx - That 1K/yr is because there is 12 vehicles to rotate use on and a 8 month season. You try it and see if you can do better.

Our local cable TV company does that.

I pressed the button. Spoke to an advisor. Got 6 months free and entered into some contest. It is only 6 months, not one year.

Didn't have to give any credit card info since they had my regular info on file.

+1,000,000

Similar story for my wife. She totalled her OnStar equiped 09 Malibu. Within seconds they were calling her. She had just phoned me and I could hear OnStar in the background giving out the address for the accident before she even told them anything.

As a result - if it's available - it will ALWAYS be on my cars.
