Spirit Booster (Throttle Remap) Impressions
Hi all, just wanted to send out some impressions of this product I picked up from a supporting forum vendor for my '08 MN6 coupe. Promise I am not a vendor plant, honest & true review.
OK so when you get the box which is about 3" square you have to wonder if it's worth $100 cubic inch (my first thought). After spending the weekend with it I have to say it defintely is if you have a LS3. A few details:
Install: A little more involved than the directions, you really need to unscrew the gas peddle (2 bolts) fromt he firewall so you can disconnect the relay and fit the module between them. The bottom connection snaps in nice and tight, the top part did not feel well connected no matter how hard I pushed, but it seems to sit will enough to work without an issue. Probably 15 mins if you take off the throttle.
Use: Pretty simple it has a small light/button switch you push once for "normal" driving (no map), again once you get a green light for more agressive throtttle and push again for a red light for even more agressive throttle, and once more bring you back to normal mode. Mounted low on the driver knee bolster against the center console is a good location, eay to reach, inconspicuous, and you can see the setting at a glance because it's in the shade.
Driving: In the driveway before I went out I blipped the throttle in all three modes and was pretty sure I would send it back as it did not really seem to do much. HOWEVER, when you get out on the road it is simply remarkable the difference in how the car drives in mode green and red.
In green mode the car feels 500 lbs lighter or like it has an LS7, it seems so much more willng to move out INSTANTLY and on command than the lazy throttle response in normal mode, In red mode it is ferocious in a good way, but still well controlled. the mapping is also very good at low RPMs so in a parking lot or just letting the clutch out you're not into the map as near as I can tell so it's not something you need to keep in your head, the car feels perfectly "normal" in those areas. The best I can describe the difference is how the car responds as if it is instantly 1 gear lower than you would be cruising in, power is RIGHT THERE and comes on quick and precise.
Last thoughts: I read a comment in another thread that said something to the effect of "if I want to go faster I'll just push harder and save $300". I have to ask, if a throttle map was a $300 option from GM, how many people would not get it?? Zero is my guess.
Anyway two big thumbs up for this, well worth the $ and easy enough to install.

True, however a tune will invalidate your warranty which, since I plan on keeping the car for sometime is not somethign I want to do. With this I can return to stock in 2 mins and there is no trace of it.

A tune comes AFTER I no longer care about warranty.

I did the math before I finished reading your entire post to learn the true cost. I couldn't figure out what it was that cost $2,700.
"OK so when you get the box which is about 3" square you have to wonder if it's worth $100 cubic inch (my first thought). "
Math, how many cubic inches in 3" x 3" x 3" box? 3 x 3 x 3 = 27 Times $100 dollars? OUCH!
Square inches would have been closer but still 3 times the cost.
