need advice w/striping my gs
I live in the Hudson Valley area in New York and I'm getting ready to take my car out of storage soon. I would appreciate some advice/feedback on where to go to get oil change and possibly factory GS fender hash marks applied. I have a 2010 Grand Sport convertible, cyber gray, black conv. top, factory chrome wheels option Lt3, manual, black leather w/ crossed flag on headrests. I'm thinking either silver or white hash marks for the fenders. My car is bone stock, I'm also favoring the GM factory hash marks because I'm not an after market guy. I bought the car new in Paramus, NJ in June 2010. I spoke to them already, but they want $475 just for the decal kit and they said that they have an outside guy who would come to the dealer and install the decals for an additional $200 to $300 dollars, and about $90 for the oil change. I would do it myself but I have no experience with this and these decals are too expensive to mess up. Is this a normal price or too high?. Keep in mind I also want it done right with no BS. I visited a local chevy dealer in Poughkeepsie, NY and they never heard of jacking pucks and also asked me what type of oil do I use and what are GS hash marks. I walked right out of there. Please help me out with some advice on what dealerships are versed with this task where i wont have any regrets. Thanks.

Any clear bra installer can do the stripes. They have a reference mark on them. $300 sure seems high. Since they are a dealer installed item that comes with the car - you would think that the service manager would help you out.
On to color. There is a guy on this site - check the GS picture thread - that has a cyber gray car AND the cyber gray stripes. The look stealth bad-a$$ IMHO.

I think that is an awful lot....after I bought my car I kept my 2010 hash stripes in the box for nearly 4 months before finally deciding to have them applied (indecisive!). Going to the original dealer wasn't an option, but the local dealer agreed to have their stripe guy (he only works one day a week) put mine on, and he only charged $90.
My car is cyber grey and the hash marks are red, but I'm thinking about swapping out to the grey stripes in a couple of years....I agree with the above poster- very classy combo!

Hey nygsvert, where do you live in the Hudson Valley? I'm from Cooperstown,NY. I'm having fender hash marks put on tomorrow. Had them cut custom for me to match a carbon fiber stripe that is on the car already. Guy is coming to my garage to put them on. I'll post pics of how they come out. If you wanted to drive the couple of hours(depending where you live) to my garage, I could get you fender stripes of your color choice and have them put on for a bunch less then what you were told. The savings would be worth the trip up. Here is my before pic and I'll post pics when i get the stripes on.

OMG!!!! I install clear bras and vinyl. The stripes are easy and would take just a few minutes. 2-300 for that??? Wow I wish I could get paid that. I would do that all day long. I will also tell you the factory stripes are made from a pretty cheap vinyl. I would go with an aftermarket stripe from a local shop. Better vinyl in any color you want and way cheaper.

I put the stripes on myself without much trouble at all. Pretty simple, just have to take your time and work carefully. They come on a templet that you align with parts of the body and headlights, so hard to get in the wrong place.
They didn't come with my car as it didn't have the heritage package, so not sure what they cost. But as a last minute part of the deal when I bought it, I had the dealer throw them in. They "borrowed" them from another car on the lot.
Mine are red to match my red interior. You can see pics in my album.
Good luck!

I ordered them from gene culley and put them on myself. They come with a template and go on wet so you can play with them. I had never done this before and was nervous because they cost close to $400.
They came out perfect!

Bought my stripes from Gene Culley (red on cyber gray). Went to a dealer to have them installed, and they said they didn't do installs but gave me the name and number of the guy who did all of their work. Gave him a call and he told me to meet him in a half hour at the Hummer dealership and he installed them in their covered show area. He does all of the vinyl for all of the dealerships. Good guy, charged me $40.00.

To CorvetteThomas.....
Are you close to me I'm in Somers...I think Millbrook is right down Rt. 100 about 10 miles...
I go to the Chevy dealership up here near Brewster.. & they treated me more than fair when I went to them..
If your near me shoot me a PM maybe we can hook up... I usually go to Englishtown NJ most Sat. to race (weather permitting)
Next Sat.March 19th they are having the 1st Corvette Challenge of the year.. (there are 10 total) & payout at each race is pretty good.... winner gets $350... RU $175.... Semi final $100

Thanks everybody, heck, after reading the last few replies I might attempt this install myself. If the decals go on wet and there is room for adjusting the hash marks that doesn't seem too risky.
As for jpee, Corvette Thomas, and cdoo932, I'm in Poughkeepsie and Millbrook is not too far away but I had an argument with the owner of Audia chevy because he refused to service my corvette. In June 2010 when the car was only 2 days old, the car went into limp mode due to a faulty gas pedal sensor. Audia's owner himself told me he cannot look at my car because it would cost him money to do so and I had it towed back to Paramus, NJ where I bought it. They fixed it. No problems since. But anyway, Brewster is about 30 minutes from me which is not too bad.
I guess if I can have a professional pinstriper do it for under $100 its worth it or i'll just try it myself.

Are they magic stripes? Where the hell do they get off charging $400 for a piece of cut vinyl that is $25 in material at best. Hell if you went to a vinyl shop they probably have scrap pieces bigger in their barrel.
I can understand paying extra for oem stuff on a lot of things but a sticker is not one of them.
Wake up guys.

I am convinced that all accessories for a Corvette have the infamous Corvette Tax applied to it....JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN and we still pay the price............
Pricing items like this should be considered Price Gouging!!!

i guess people have more money than time. to save from getting scrued try this you might like it. find a dirt track racer any kind and ask them who made the graphics and numbers for there car. these people will sell or give you enough vinyl to do your stripes. go to there shops and see what they can do with vinyl and diff designs. using soapy water or windex to install makes it easy and almost impossible to screw up instulation. several hundred dollars for 2 sq ft of vinys is total insanity. should cost 3-4 bucks
