Crashed the Vette at Homestead :( Video
OK, Well not a post I ever wanted to make here. But you play you pay should be the title.
I was at homestead for an HPDE with HOD. Long story short, had brake fade in a corner, pedal to the floor in turn 3 and had to make the turn as there was a wall in front of me. Downshifted, went around the corner and went into the tire wall.
Missed the solid concrete part by a foot, went almost the whole length of the car on the drivers side into the tires.
I was having a great run, car was so quick on the track.
Damage: Nothing major fortunately, mostly cosmetic, front bumper, scratches on fender, lost fog light, scratches on headlight, minor scratches on hood, scratches down door and rear quarter, broke drivers mirror too, trashed carbon fiber splitter and drivers side carbon fiber skirt.
Broke radiator support, can easily be welded on.
Bottom plug on radiator broke backwards, still attached, can probably be welded back on. Other than that nothing mechanical or stuctual.
Will get a 4 wheel alignment, will need wiring harness for lights.
No airbag deployment.
No insurance coverage so it's out of my pocket. I understood this and will consider track coverage moving forward.
Racer you will be happy to know I will have them paint the sides of my hood except the bubble in the middle left as exposed carbon
OK, well here's the video, pics at end of video

"In honor of jpee"
glad to hear you're ok. and that the damage was relatively minimal.
surprised you're not claiming it's a warranty item to fix it. j/k. take care and give us some pics if you want to.
btw. what do you think it was w. the brakes? cooked fluid?

I went to flush the system and the "people" who had done my brakes previously stripped the bleeders on the front. Put castrol SRF in and bled the rears, then got to the front and couldnt bleed the passenger side. As they had totally rounded them. After my first session I checked the fluid and it was brown again, I assume some of the old fluid got back into the system. I had ordered new bleed valves from Gene, but they were a special order so didn't come in time for this event. So thinking fluid got too hot caused brake fade.

Bummer!
Maybe the new Brembos on the Z07 package would have helped! I admire anyone that has the ***** to do what you did! Glad it was not worse. By the way, you seemed to pass more than you got passed! is your car a base model or a Z06??

What brakes do you have?

damn....could always be worse.
On a brighter note car sounded awesome. Glad you weren't hurt.

Thankfully just simple, basic parts. No injury is what counts. Looked like a good run and a good time up to that point. Ever consider a dedicated track car? Maybe in the future? Anyway, get 'er fixed and back on the road.

If you lost your brakes and entered the corner hot why would you stay to the inside like that instead of tracking out to lose momentum, additionally you should turn in late in that situation. Also you can also clearly hear you getting back on the throttle after the apex. It looks like a pretty clear case of power over without correction.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's pretty easy to do in a vette even for a highly skilled driver. There is something wrong with not acknowledging it though.

stopped by today getting worked on at Torq, like I said to friends, it's not a matter of "if" more of "when"
Agree, wanted to share too, let people know that if you do not purhase track insurance and can't afford to pay, then don't play.....
this will dip into my mod money fund......my friends think I am

David, sorry to see this happen to your car. Glad your OK man.
I was waiting for the F-Bombs after the car came to a halt.
Either you have great self control or you edited them out.
Good luck with the repairs.

I know this is inevitably going to aggravate you, and I wasn't there, but you did post a video and it's pretty clear this is not what happened. Or at least not as innocently.
