Front plate free Vettes in Illinois?????
My Kid came across this info. and shared it with me. Apparently the Illinois general assembly has been kicking around the notion of eliminating the front license plate requirement as a cost saving measure. They have not approved it as of yet, and it seems it is currently in limbo, but the fact that they are considering the elimination of the front plate is refreshing! I would love to rid my car of the front plate, but I don't want to deal with money hungry cities and villages.

It's the farthest thus far, but still no dice.
I've been rocking no front plate since I was 17 across 5 vehicles and I'm 27 now. I've received one ticket in the last 10 years.

Would be great if it passes all the way through, but I don't think it ever will, or if it does will not be for a LONG long time. Not the way things run in this state.
Remember, cops get to write tickets for no front-plate. It's another revenue producer, and gives suspicous LEO's another reason to stop you.
Seems like each year it gets brought up and then shot down. Will be a pleasant surprise if it does actually pass.

I'm so thankful my car is registered in AL. No goofy front plate for me. Also I haven't been pulled over for not having one if the cops assumed that I have a NJ, NY plates.

I never put mine on and never will, it looks gay on the vette and any nice car that you care about and enjoy driving... I usually park my car in garages or valet and it surely helps to be known in the city of Chicago. But either way, you gotta use your head a little bit first off and secondly, you just have to say F IT!!!

In states that use photo radar, getting rid of the front plate isn't usually an option. It looks like illinois users photo radar only in radar vans around work zones? The findings from their recent analysis (concluded Jan 2010) showed the vans were effective, which always gives lawmakers another potential revenue stream to offset any lost savings from eliminating the front plate. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but my guess is they'll keep the plates.

They can ticket you in valet too.

Hope I don't jinx myself but I'm the same. Havn't put a front plate on the Vette or the DD, Grand Prix. Every once in awhile, I'll try and count the cars without plates that are going the other way and over a ruffly 21 mile distance (home to work) I've counted as many as 62 and usually get at least 35 to 40.

Ohio has the same stupid requirement. On top of that, my local police have become the enforcers of front plate, window tint, plate covers and tints for lights, laws.

I dont have my front plate attached either. But if i did, ill just suck it up and pay the fine. I got a ticket once for having tint on my windows while my truck was parked. And as much as i hated to pay the fine (250) i just payed it. I could have flashed my police badge but im no better than the rest of u guys. It is what it is! But i myself dont write ppl for no front plate, tint, loud exhaust, etc. But everybody is different.

This has been kicking around for several years but has never come to pass. We have never displayed the front plate on either of our C5's. My husband was stopped a few years ago at FunFest for not having a front plate but wasn't ticketed. His front plate is actually underneath the front plate cover while I keep mine in the back of mine.

... I'm not holding my breath, if it passes great... This state has issues other than front license plates that are a little more important right now.
