As I see it, without the extended warranty you pay for any repairs you need and with the extended warranty you pay whether anything breaks or not! In other words, you may end up paying for nothing, or paying more than the actual cost of repairs. For me, a no-brainer.

Walt,

"Consumer Reports" rates the C6 as follows:

05 - much worse than average
06 - average
07 - better than average
08 - much better than average
09 - average (just MY luck)

The 08 Z06 is rated much better than average.

I rate Consumer Reports as follows:

05 - much worse than average
06 - average,
07 - not better than average
08 - no way much better than average
09 - stupid at best

But they did a swell and absolutely dandy job rating my toaster, it toast the bread on both sides!!!

Yup, my 07 Z06 has 36 months and 42K miles left on my ZERO GMPP. That's more than someone buying a brand new 2011 Z06. Worth the $1190 I paid for the peace of mind it gives me and should I sell it how many pre-owned Z's have any warranty left?

Bob, You and I may be the only forum members that gives Consumer Reports some credit for what they report. Considering the past unreliability of Corvettes I'm happy with an "average" rating on my 09.
The more reliable the car is the worse the payout of an extended warranty is.

Walt,

Well, for what it's worth, I just checked the "CR" site again. I was looking at the incorrect row - the ratings I gave are for AUDIO systems (sorry about that). Here is the rating for the C6:

05 - worse than average
06 - better than average
07 - average
08 - better than average
09 - average

The overall rating for Corvette '01-'09 is average.

The 08 Z06 is rated much better than average.

I agree - I'll take an "average" rating any day.

Silverado - I guess you are aware that "CR" ratings are based on what subscriber OWNERS report, so it's pretty close to "real world" experience. I've been subscribing to "CR" for >35 years and use it as just another source when making decisions on purchases. I don't imagine there are a lot of Corvette owners that subscribe to "CR," so the ratings have to be considered with that in mind. However, you can bet that MY next survey will include experience with my (new-to-me) '09 Coupe.

Thanks for this thread!
I just emailed Dennis for my 08 Z06 with 19,500 miles. My warranty 3/36 expires in one week.

I bought the EasyCare Total Care (think that is the right tier) directly from the Chevy dealer when I bought the car. $2500 for 7/70K miles with $0 deductible and it is bumper to bumper (minus the wear and tear items). The GS isn't cheap , or the Vette in general, and neither is a repair. You may or may not need it since the majority of today's cars are built solid. Just depends on your financial situation.

I prefer to self insure in areas that the liability is limited like car repairs are. Why not be your own insurance company?
Please don't tell me "peace of mind."

Yep that's usually the best answer. I have plenty of cash and credit available. I just bought an 07 bmw 335xi with 19000 miles this month from a Ford dealer. Initially I got the PremiumCare warranty for 3yr/36K/$100 for $3000. Thought about it when I got home and decided to cancel the next day. The way I see it I am not going to spend $3000 in repairs in the next 3 years. So if something happens I'm screwed right? Please, I'll put whatever repair cost on one credit card and then a week later transfer it to my card with 0.9% interest for 24 months and no transaction fee. Basically 2 year interest free repair financing. I've had a factory warranty on 3 of my cars ever, used them for an alignment, door lock mechanism and injector cleaning/ecm reflash. I also drive less than most though so that plays into me being less likely to need repairs.

BUY IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN. The day after it expires the 'puter is programmed to throw codes and expel liquids. But seriously, I had it on my last car, C5, it was past the normal and only a month or so left on the extended ... needed new gas tanks, pumps and lines. $3500 at no charge with the Xtend.

Bought one on my 09 just two months ago. 48 months and added mileage for $1k. I figured it was $250/year for full coverage on the car and I figured it was a no brainer. To each their own.

The GMPP saved me big time with my C5Z. Everything electrical malfunctioned for the better part of seven years. Bought the GMPP for my '07. Never had to use it in three years of ownership.

Just purchased a GMPP 4 yr/32k miles for my 08' for $820. I liked that it listed what wasn't covered, and that that list was very, very short. Peace of mind? Absolutely. All it takes is for one thing of any consequence to break or stop working properly, and it's already paid for itself. If nothing happens and it's never used, great - I'd gladly pay 205 bucks a year for a no stress ownership. Heck, I wish I could get inexpensive warranties like this on other things that can cause great stress........................

As Alfred E. Newman said, "What, me worry?" 90% of what people worry about never happens. Want to save money and improve your health? Don't be a worry wort.

Get the warranty only if you like throwing money away. Keep your money in your bank account and pay for any repairs yourself.
