Default Another oil temp question/concern....

After doing a search of this question it appears that most get confused and answer with water coolant temps in mind, so hence the question just for clarification....

What is the avg normal ENGINE oil temp for a base C6 A6 (tune, ported tb/manifold,headers,CAI,Z06 diff)?

I reached 248* yesterday highway driving at avg of 80mph in 92* weather in S mode targa top off (paddles not used).
I did notice when hitting wet roads (after rain in that area) and turning off AC, the temps dropped about 15*! Turned AC back on and temp only climbed to about 238*

I'm thinking of getting both engine AND trans oil coolers...

Thanks.

I don't think those temps are out of the ordinary. You don't want the oil temps to be too low; driving off any water/contaminants is important.

My Z06 the oil temp only runs about 180 - 190, even on a hot summer day with the air on......

Ditto but the Z06 and GS have an external oil cooler. The standard C6 does not.

I do have a 160* stat... I think my trans temp was 214 and coolant was 208 (+/-)
Also for what it may worth, the DIC Says oil is at 36%...

Mobil 1 oil is good to at least 280 degrees, perhaps even well past 300. If you're not tracking the car, I don't think you need any external coolers.

We had an oil engineer give his generic opinion that 5w-30 oil should be 190'-260' for full power operation.

On our 2009, high oil temp doesn't turn the cooling fan on High until the oil hits 302'.

High oil temp doesn't throw a DIC message until 320'.

So, I use 190-260 as my "Green" temp.
260-302 as my "Yellow" temp.
302 is my redline, and anything over 320 might be doing actual harm.
