Quite possible but we usually get bulletins when this happens. I'll check with engineering at Tremec when they get back from the holidays. I'm sure a lot of guys are interested in what's in the transmission. Transmission trivial pursuit! Now there's a new board game. I have included a couple of pictures showing the difference between the bronze double cone and the Carbon fiber lined triple cone synchros for your intrest. These came out of a 2010 GS.

I checked with Tremec before posting this to see if the 2011's were the same and they told me they were unchanged from 2010. I'll check again with engineering after the holidays to make sure.

Jim,

Can I ask what the reason for this change was, did the trans have issues?
I have an 09 coupe, would you say that this "upgrade" to the new 2010/2011 synchros is worth the time and money of removing/rebuilding the trans? There's nothing wrong with my trans, other the then known cold notchiness...

Thanks, Sonny

That's about it, except Ford has had hell with the GT500 grinding 2nd gear on fast, high-rpm shifts.

Absolutely no reason to upgrade. Your 2009 has the same style of synchros as the 2010 except they are all bronze. If it's shifting nicely I'd leave it alone. I changed mine because I needed to pull the tranny for other reasons and thought WTH. Mine doesn't shift any better with the Carbon fiber. Carbon fiber synchros were put in the 2nd gear position because 2nd usually takes a beating and is first to go in a consistently hard shifted tranny. The bronze synchros will give you long life if not abused.

I also confirmed with Tremec source that newer TR6060's have carbon (they are really compressed carbon) synchros ONLY in second gear. I was also informed that to change over to carbon 2nd gear synchros, you must replace the 2nd gear as well.

This is true if your TR6060 is 2009 or earlier as the 2nd gear and synchro teeth are symmetric. The 2010 and up 2nd gear teeth are asymmetric as is the synchro, so changing the gear is not necessary.

Correct, I should have mentioned to retro fit into 09 and older TR's.

Thanks! Now I know I can save my money for other mods and don't have to mess with the tranny if it won't improve anyway
