My last "toy" was a Saleen S351 Mustang with a BIG HP 7.0 liter Lozano Bros. World Challenge motor, basically a race car barely street legal. Needless to say, I never had a front plate on it, but I did have an State Trooper do a U once and stop me just for that reason. He lectured me that they made front plate brackets for Mustangs, I told him it wasn't a regular Mustang, and he looked the front end all over, and said he wouldn't put one on it either. He said he gathered by the rough idle it wasn't "normal" and said to figure something out. I never did, never got a ticket, and I've got a new Grand Sport that I don't intend on putting a front plate on, no issues so far.

Never ran a front plate on any of my Corvettes for YEARS untill we moved to this small CNY village with a police force trying to justify their jobs,, Pulled over twice in two weeks and I was told the next time a ticket,, 60 dollar ticket and 100 surcharge so I now run front plates on both cars...

I'm not taking chances. It's removeable if necessary.

Do you happen to live in the Sullivan County area ?

I actually was parked by my gym a few weeks back and got a ticket from a meter maid for no plate or missing equipment was the term used. I put the bracket on with double sided tape and my plate on and snapped a photo and submitted it. The ticket was dismissed a few days later.
As far as driving in NY I agree with all of u! F the front plate! If NJ don't need it why do we? I carry the front plate in the car at all times and I guess my story would go something like "It was loose and I didn't want to risk losing it officer." Or just flash a PBA card lol

I think part of the problem why people don't want the front plate on is that:

1) Holes drilled in front bumper is a no-no.

2) Regular plates have odd combos of letters and numbers.

I have no problem since I have a vanity plate that relates to the car. As was stated before, I don't need to give any LEO a reason to pull me over. Don't need the hassle.

The new orange NY plates look OK on your silver car but imagine what they'd look like against Victory Red. When I bought the vette I swapped plates with my SUV so I could use the old red, white & blue ones.

ORANGE plates? Geeeze! you'd think the governor was blind or somethin.

Sorry the NY owners have to worry about that. In FLA only have to have the rear plate.

Default NY Front plate-XXnot

I actually bought the aftermarket front plate holder, and used the 3M tape to put it on. I cleaned and alcohol rubbed the underside of the bumper, and the next morning I found the plate and holder on my garage floor. I guess it's fate to keep it off! I keep both the plate and holder in the well storage in my car and if stopped I can show it to the nice officer, 3M tape and all explaining it just fell off!

you now have the option to keep the old plates without a extra cost, but ALL new registrations have the orange plate (new or used car), it looks terrible on any car in my opinion...although, you can still get a regional/sports/cause plate (i.e. hudson valley, NY yankees, etc...)
and it's the red, white and blue plate with a graphic on it...

Back when I lived upstate I never put on the front plate. Never had a problem either.

Same here in California. I've been pulled over for other things, but never had anyone even look at the front of the car.

Try the remote plate and flip/use it only when driving in the small town or when stopped.
