Question about GM card earnings redemption

100% correct . Do you have a "Top-Off Bonus offer" on the card good for $3K that expires on 1/3/11 or is it the "Targeted In Market Retention" private offer for $3K thru 1/3/11 like I do ? If you have the top-off bonus on the card, then you NEED TO GIVE YOUR NAME and ZIP CODE to your dealer(Tommy Jr) or any dealer so he can check the MANIFEST to see if your on it too (10 million customers are!). The reason I say this is because there is no Communication (mail or email) from GM that we are on it. I am on it but only know so because a dealer checked for me. The big news for you is that this private offer IS STACKABLE with your Card/TopOff bonus money. I used my latest Card TopOff Bonus to buy a new Equinox on 10/29/10 but that batch of bonuses expired on 11/1/10. GOOD LUCK !

Here is what happened. I called GM card yesterday and after 5 prompts got the typical foreign woman. Said she could help me with figuring how many points could be used. I already knew that, $1,000. Tranferred me to the redemption center. Wait on hold for 30 minutes. Hung up and tried again 2 hours later. Same thing then on hold for 20 minutes. Hung up and called later in the evening. Got through to someone in the redemption center. She talked to a supervisor who agreed to raise the limit by $500. I'm not sure if she felt sorry for me or it was because I bought so many new cars in the past 6 years.
I explained my displeasure with that and hung up.
On a brighter note I bought the 2011 crystal red GS convertible today and pick it up tomorrow.
I'm going to stop using the GM card and try to use the remaining points in a few years.
Any thoughts on a credit card with good rewards?

I have over 300 DVDs/BluRays, a Wii, PS3, Xbox360, and tons of games, etc etc...much of it thanks to the card (had it since 04).

Think the case with my 06' ZO6 was the allotment in such short supply, no one wanted to rock the boat. Not really complaining as it was a small out of state dealer that came through at the promised $1K under sticker, when other's were charging $5K to $10K over. No real suprise of no GM card when later buying a daily car at employee pricing, rebate's, ext. Also helped my brother get employee for his 08' Cadillac CTS when they first came out, but no GM card.

What I got is a little brochure from GM Card in early November that says "Exclusively For Select Card Members $500 to $3000 in Bonus Earnings". Most of the GM cars listed are eligible for $500 in Bonus Earnings. Most of the Caddies are eligible for $1500. Only Corvette and the Escalades are eligible for $3000. Depending on car bought, the Bonus Earnings add directly to your entire current earnings account. Earnings can be used on either 2010 or 2011 cars. The Bonus Earnings expire after Jan 3rd. I did give Tommy Jr my Bonus Earnings Code included in the brochure. It sounds like I need to also check if I am on a manifest for another "Targeted In Market Retention" private offer for $3K thru 1/3/11???? Joe at Classic may have already done that for me last week when he said he would check a "manifest" to see if there were any rebates I would be eligible for and he reported back none.
By all means you need to call Tommy Jr. and get him to check the MANIFEST. Could mean $3K to ya. Remember that I (and most people) were not notified by GM that we are on the list so everybody call your dealer. Here is the info on this private offer.

"In Target Marketing programs:
Similar to the previous waves, targeted owners will receive a private stackable offer. For most models there are three offer levels ($500 / $1000 / $1500) depending on the vehicle purchased/leased and the owner’s “risk of defection”.
Exceptions include:
Chevrolet - Corvette is at $3,000 for all levels. Cruze remains at $500 for all levels. Equinox is now a tiered offer ($500/$1000/$1500).
Cadillac - Escalade models at $3,000 at all three levels, all other Cadillac models at $1,500.
GMC – No exceptions. Terrain is now a tiered offer ($500/$1000/$1500)
Buick - No exceptions. All models at three levels ($500/$1000/$1500)
Additional enhancements for Nov/Dec include:
For the Nov/Dec wave, we have added approximately 10 million additional Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer VINs to the manifest. Virtually all Saturn and Hummer owners and Pontiac owners 1995-2010 MY are now eligible for the private offer. Fleet owners have been excluded.
Note, however, this is not an “open private” offer for Saturn, Hummer and Pontiac owners. The customer must either be on the manifest or show proof of ownership for the VIN on the manifest where customer information is not included".

I have used my original plan GM card for two cars now, cashing in $3000 to $3500 each time. When I started searching for my Corvette last year, I had one dealer tell me that he couldn't honor the GM card discount. I called the number from their website and complained. It was explained that the discount comes from GM card, not the dealer and they can not refuse it. I was given a contact to use if I pursued the purchase and was again refused. Dealer where I eventually purchased didn't give me a bit of problem about using the discount.

I stopped using my classic GM Card after redeeming $3k on my 2010 coupe in late 2009. At the time (pre GM Bankruptcy) and even still today, there's no guarantee that my unlimited redemption limit won't be changed or revoked... so I switched to the American Express Cash card. No fees and unlimited 5% cash back on gas, groceries, drug stores, and 1.25% cash back on everything else, as long as you spend at least $6.5k/yr. Not interested in points, miles, gimmicks, etc... just cash!
I use the GM card and an American Express card. With the classic card you are limited to $500 of earnings per year which you get when you charge $10K on the card. Once I hit that number I stop using the card and switch over to the American Express Card and charge the next $10K on it which usually takes me to the anniversary date of the GM card. Over the years I have received over $6K of discounts on GM cars due to using the card. The last new car we bought was our 08 Malibu and we had to choose whether to use the employee discount we get or the GM Card discount (I never signed up for the version for GM Employee family members). The employee discount would have given us $2900 off the vehicle while the card gave us $2500. I asked the dealer for their best price and used the card savings since I actually got a larger discount that way.
