If you look at what the various OEMs offer most of them don't do a bumper to bumper past 4 years/50K miles while powertrain is covered for much longer for some of them. If the electronics were as solid as the powertrain parts of a car they might have a longer warranty as well. On all of my cars over the last 13 years I have had only three powertrain issues. One of those was a water pump on the Z, one was a leak in the oil cooler line of the Z and the other was a bad intake manifold gasket on my 03 Tahoe. All of my other problems on Vettes and several other cars have been non-powertrain related. Those repairs can be quite expensive and for a number of them just paying the cost of one repair will equal or exceed the cost of the GMPP. Some of them can make powertrain repairs seem cheap.

If you buy make sure you get it through one of our forum vendors. I have purchased three of them from Dennis Fichtner over the last 10 years. Low price and no sales tax.

Thanks Bill for the mention

Again powertrain only, lots of other things to go wrong that are very costly if they do go bad. As I tell all my customers when purchasing a GMPP from me, hope you never use it!!!

Default importance of gmpp

my 2005 auto coupe under gmpp until feb 2011
-- using it this spring when the passenger side of the automatic hvac
pushed nothing but hot air to the passenger

driver side worked fine.
dealer replaced all of the acutators by pulling the dash.
gm budget was something like 10 or 11 hours. i paid $100 deductible.

Yep. If you are Hannibal Lecter, that's real important. Piece of mind.

But even more important, with the GMPP, is...... "peace of mind".

Also with the GMPP,......

How does the rental work?
GM Protection Plan will pay the cost to rent a replacement vehicle or pay for public transportation. The limit is $35 per day and a maximum of $175 per repair visit if the vehicle is accepted for repairs or services covered by either the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or a Major Guard , Value Guard or Smart Protection contract.

The repair or service must require two or more manufacturer's labor time guide hours or needs to be kept in the repair facility overnight. (Please see contract for details.)

The total dollar limit per repair visit will be increased to a maximum of $280 if the repairs are delayed because of a parts delay. The GM Protection Plan must be notified of the delay within the first five (5) days of the rental period. Rental reimbursements will be made only for rental vehicles obtained through GM dealerships or licensed rental agencies.

The point is if something goes wrong your heiney is somewhat covered. Yeah, it won't cover everything but what it will cover can be major $$$$!

Important? 10 hours...$750... plus how much for parts? If I buy a $2000 GMPP, I "hope" to have at least $3000 in needed repairs before I feel the plan was worth my upfront investment in it.

What's the point?

"Profit for those who sell them".

People who buy these are also well known to purchase lottery tickets.

Mine's a 2006 but just today I had a dead battery (possibly due to my own idiocy leaving a PDA plugged into the console ACC outlet overnight) which GMPP covered via a road assist jump that arrived way faster than I expected. I was impressed, and have yet another reason to be glad I got a GMPP from Dennis at Fichtner.

AAA would be there just as quick and a yearly membership is a fraction of the cost. Besides, for some a GMPP means you have to take it to a DEALERSHIP for repair. My dealership couldn't repair a roller skate and the next closest dealer is 2 hrs away.

That is what really bites the average owner of an older corvette beyond the 36/36 warranty.

Also, it is about a 100% mark up on their cost (dealer), so you can get them down quite a bit. I have found that I can take half their price to me, and add 200$ to cover the commission for the salesman who does the GMPP deals and they bite at it. It is a paper deal for them, transaction cost is about 75$, so depends on how hungry they are. Shop around too.
