Remember on Veterans Day
In the past I've not been the one to start a thread like this, but that all changed Friday, 5 Nov, when my wife called me sobbing and told me of the death of our close friends' son. Sgt Michael Paranzino, United States Army, gave his last full measure Friday in Afghanistan. He was a 22 year old Soldier from Middletown RI that had already made one deployment to Iraq and on the backside of his deployment to Afghanistan; had just been home for R&R. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
No, there is no Corvette theme here, but I think we all care about our service members and veterans. Please remember Michael and his sacrifice on Veterans Day

One veteran to another, thank you for your service and to all past and present who have served.
Without their sevice, we would not have the freedom to choose to own our Corvettes.

The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here...
They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod...
As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you soldier,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.

Don''t take this the wrong way, but Veterans day is just a day of the year. There are 364 other days of the year that you should be thanking and be thankful for those who gave some and especially those who gave all for us. Past and present men & women serving our nation deserve our respect and our support(especially when it comes to writing politicians) every day and Every day is a good day to recognize a hat, a plate, a shirt, etc.. and extend a thank you or buy a beer/breakfast etc.. for those who have been put in the thick of the **** in our name.
To those who respond to the things that go bump in the night so that I may sleep soundly, thank you.
Also, Don't forget about our current troops deployed. Everyone knows someone that is or who has a loved one deployed. Get their APO, spend an hour on a weekend putting together a care pack for them and send someone in distant land a reminder that people at home are thinking about them and hopefully give them a smile. 12.50 shipping for a flat rate APO box && 30 bucks or so can go a long ways. . .

Thanks to all who have posted.
BrianH, I couldn't agree more; I pray everyday for those past and present who have worn our Nation's cloth and grateful that my current job provides those who go in harm's way with the most lethal capabilities possible.
