You asked for it. First rule of driving in traffic is to give no advantage. Since you left the hole that car and any following it when traffic starts to move can fill the hole and keep you from moving. They will have the angle on you and will use it. If that happened in Boston there would be 5 more cars coming in right behind that one and they wouldn't give you an inch.

I have an older chevy pickup that I occasionally drive and I notice that this BS doesn't happen while driving it. But this sort of stuff happens almost daily when I'm driving the vette.

I bet he waved to you like you "let" him in too. Also your supposed to leave that gap in front of any vehicle and watch your mirrors for the idiots that may rear end you. Gives you a "cushion" space to move up or prevent further damage from the rear end collision by not hitting the person in front of you as well. Me I would have thrown a coke at him lol just kidding happens all the time in Texas.

Your all assuming that the vette was cut off by the mini van. We can't tell what the circumstance was just by looking at the picture. The OP didn't really say. The van driver may have had his turn signal on and may have politely gestured for permission to come over. Looks like the vette driver was just being courteous.
Even if it wasn't a friendly maneuver by the van, there's nothing you can really do, just let them in...it's just not worth it.
On a side note. Clearly knowing that someone can edge in front of me if I leave a large enough space between me and the car in front, I still leave plenty of room. I like to have that comfort zone in case the other car starts to roll back, or if I need to get into the other lane I have plenty of room to pull out. Also gives me a cushion I can use if the car behind me is to close, or approaching to fast. If a car squeezes in front of me....so what!

Just let them in!!!!!! Good practice to leave space between you and car ahead of you at light.. Gives you a exit in just in case someone wants your Vett more than you..

I'd get out and politely ask, Did I leave you enough room? Only kidding. You got no choice but to let them in.
Next time, close the gap a little. I would also put the phone down. Some LEO might decide to give you a ticket for cell phone use.

Folks, I am impressed by the good answers of all. Yes, I let him go with no incident. However I had to take a quick picture because this white rental Nissan Versa cut me off (had to brake) too close to my fender. Yes, it is a small car, and it looks big because it is too close to my car. There is only one lane turning or U turn. I usually leave a little gap in front but not enough for a car to cut in. In this case my car was still rolling. He could easily pull behind me but for any reason he decided to cut me off. By the way later on he pulled to a body shop driveway.

I have this happen to me several times when I am first at the light. I am 6'3" and can not see stop light if I am ou on the intersection, but when I stop where I can see the light, some drivers will cut in front of me to be first at light.

I usually leave that space too. It allows me to "give" a little space if someone is having difficulty stopping behind me. Many years ago I scared the bejesus out of my Dad, I was sitting at a light and had the "space" in front of me. Suddenly I floored the car, yanked it to the right (empty lane) and then stopped. My Dad went ballistic as he was the passenger and it scared him. He settled down quickly as a car slid (brakes locked up) past my left side and hit the car that used to be sitting in front of me. I was going to be a sammich! Til this day, I leave escape space in front of me when I stop.
Let the dork in. It'll cost you, what, 2 seconds of your time? I'd rather have the lane "mash" happen under control than to have them mash in while moving.
