Default Models and packages question. Looking to buy.

Hi, its been some time since I sold my Vette and last posted here. Hope you can catch me up to speed in a hurry. I'm looking at a new Vette this afternoon and have a question.

I know the difference in the models and packages. My question is, would most people prefer a base model with the 3lt group or the GS with the 1lt group, if money was an issue?

I didn't do all the exact math on it yet, so I would just like your opinion on the 2 options if you were faced with that choice.

Also, what options are a must have? Please help. I haven't much time. Been up all night working. Hope to wake up to some answers and a new car.

Maybe I should ad I'm looking at 2011.

not so good an idea to go in cold without all your research done. but to me, I have a base with 3LT. But that's BEFORE they came out with the GS.

given a choice, if money's an object, I don't know which is cheaper or if the 3LT is still available on the base. but I would still go for the GS and 1LT if that's what it took because the handling package is on the GS and not on the base.

my guess is the base will be less expensive tho. I think you need to get your numbers worked out first before you put yourself in a dealer's hands, don't you?

2011 Coupe 3LT MSRP Starting at $53,155.
2011 GS 1LT MSRP Starting at $54,790.
If you plan on taking it to the track or like driving "flat out", go with the GS. Just touring around, take the 3LT. I would actually prefer the 3LT if money was an issue, tires last longer and are cheaper, HUD is recommended by most here, heated seats and universal remote are nice features, better seats. If money is not an issue get a ZR1.

Of the two choices you presented, I'd take the base with 3LT in a heartbeat. Don't get me wrong - I like the features of the GS as much as anyone but I know that I wouldn't be happy without things like HUD, heated seats, power passenger seat, and navigation. (Navigation is a stand-alone option that can be purchased with 3LT and 4LT but not with 1LT or 2LT.) Add navigation to a 3LT base coupe and you're very close to the same m.s.r.p. as a no-option 1LT Grand Sport.

Since the GS came out in 2010 it has been the more popular. If you want the more performance model with wider tires then go the GS route. If you want a better ride and pay less money then go with the base Coupe. It all depends on how the remaining 10's are optioned. You are the one that needs to be satisfied. I have an 09 Base Coupe and I simply cant justify the extra costs to move up to a GS. You will also have to pay attention as to whats out there and available on the 2010's. The 10's are a better deal, but can you find what you want and what you can live with...

Everybody has different thoughts on the 1,2,3, or 4LT. To me it isn't about money at all, it's about value and future maintenance problems. The 4LT has it all, and of all the items it adds to the 1LT, the only ones I'd like is interior color choice, the 4LT leather, and possibly the HUD.

($1,195) 2LT = 1LT +
Passenger side 6-way power seat adjuster
Seats, Sport front bucket seats with perforated leather seating surfaces, includes back angle adjustment, adjustable lumbar and side bolsters. (* Note; 1LT seats are wider and more comfortable)

Cargo Net in rear compartment

Luggage shade in rear compartment

Choice of Interior Colors (* Note; the best part of the 2LT option, should be available on the 1LT)

Bluetooth Cell Connectivity with Steering Wheel Controls

($4,205) 3LT = 1LT + 2LT +
Audio System Bose Premium 7-speaker system (* Note; base stereo sounds much better)

Head-Up Display (* Note; the best part of the 3LT option, and should be a stand alone option)

Memory Package

Heated seats, driver and passenger sides

Universal Home Remote

Power Telescoping Steering Column

One year subscription for XM Satellite Radio

($7,705) 4LT = 1LT + 2LT + 3LT +
Custom Leather Wrapped Interior, features leather-wrapped upper instrument panel, upper door trim panels and console storage cover. Exclusive leather color and two-tone design includes seat headrest “tonal” crossed flag embroidery and enhanced armrest padding. (* Note; this leather looks great, and won't cause future maintenance problems)

Special gunmetal pattern console trim plate.

If I were buying a new Vette, '10 or '11, it would be a GS, MN6, NPP, coupe for sure, 1 - 4LT wouldn't matter that much, but I wouldn't want the nav unit, or the full width spoiler, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Well, you came to the right place to ask.....since you ask I'll tell ya my experience and that it's what YOU want and can afford/spend....

Just last year I FINALLY bought my first Vette....had wanted one since I was very young...this was 2009...

Let me first say the Grand Sport was not yet available....and had it have been available, I would STILL have it today....the look is what I LOVE....

I looked around and had a buddy who had bought a new C5 convertible and really liked the top-down experience. So, not really being a "hot-rodder" type I decided I would go for a vert.....however, since I was a kid I had always told myself I wanted the "427" Vette....so I looked at the C6 Z06 as well.....my problem was I did want a vert, but the Z06 is what I truely wanted....however, I could not convince myself to SPEND that much money on a car. (I need to also say I could have afforded it-down payment and the note for the Z06)....

So, not wanting to spend that much money for a car (Z06) I bought a '09 C6 Z51 Convertible (3LT w/full-length spoiler-chrome wheels and tintcoat paint)....I loved the car.....it was fantastic. Great first Vette. (but all my life I wanted a 427).....I got use to it....around the 9th month of ownership I recd a email from the dealer....(earlier this year) saying they had blowout sale on Vettes PLUS ZERO financing sale....they had a Z06 that I loved...(I don't really care about the colors-I like them all) it had RPO red interior with full-length spoiler and chrome Z wheels.....had it marked down over $10k!!! so I thought about it until Monday morning (this was Saturday) and called them and said to get it ready and I would drive down and get it....

The lesson here.....GET WHAT YOU WANT THE FIRST TIME.....it cost me the down-payment and depreciation on the '09 (about 15k) PLUS another down payment for the Z06 (10k) totaling $25,000.....Soooo, do NOT do what I did....get what you really want the first time and don't worry how much it cost, you WILL GET OVER IT....get what you WANT and you will BE HAPPY....as far as options, that is up to you....what ever makes you happy....what makes me happy may not be what makes you happy....good luck and post a pic....

Thanks people.
Just woke up to some great replies. On my way to the dealer now. I hate talking to the dealer. Will see what they have.

I'm reading those blow out prices might not include the 0%. It's either or. It's always something.

I would go with the GS because I love the Z51 suspension, but I would love to have the adjustaable lumber power seats that i currently have. I really find them comfortable!

The Nav system is something that i could do without. It is easy enough to use a Garmin or other standalone GPS system, and i see that a new Escort Radar & GPS combo has just been released to market.

The HUD is nice, but you can add in on after purchase. I don't think this is the easiest install, but it is what I would choose.

I consider the NPP exhaust option a must-have. I love that sound.

Save yourself a great deal of time and aggravation, call Tommy Jr. at MacMulkin and he will order the exact car you want. And, pick it up at the Museum.

I have had both, a 1LT GS and now a 3LT GS. The 3LT has better gizmos that most people like. Small investment for down the road. I would wait a couple months and get a 3LT GS. Best of both worlds.

I just got home. I actually bought the dang thing.

I had every intent to buy the base model with the 3LT package.

I ended up with the Grand Sport and the 3LT package. Also came with GS Heritage package, Chrome aluminum wheels, Automatic tranny with paddle shift, Dual-mode performance exhaust and 6 disc cd player.

White with red leather. Stupid fast to me.

MSRP was 65,975.00. I gave 54,500.00. I'm happy with it. Please don't ruin it and say I over paid.

was this a 2010? im guessing it was and you got a great deal! i was looking at a 2010 vert with msrp's of 72.000 and was able to negotiate 12 off but there was more money in that deal at 72 so if you got 11.5 off brother that was a steal!! ive been in the car buisness along time and i know how to buy so feel good you did well. i actually bought a 2011 from the paramus auto mall in jersey, there a big corvette store they use to be malcom konner, they were great but the one that deserves the credit and great price is tom jr from macmulkin!! there is no dealer on the east coast that can take care of us better than him, when i was looking his prices were the best in the country! 8500 off on a 2011 and a great guy to talk too the only reason i went to paramus was the color that i wanted was a black gs vert with the 3lt two tone red interior and believe or not there were only two on the whole east coast and they had it, there prices were very high at first but i knew they would call back and when they did i faxed them all the adds tom jr had on the internet so finally they gave in. i really wish i bought from tom because i know dozens of people that cant stop talking about he takes care of his customers. we talked on the phone for almost an hour even when he new he didnt have what i wanted no pressure to order he even tried to locate what i wanted at dealer closer to me were he would have made nothing all he cared about was maybe making a customer and a friend the next time i needed something, so everyone on the east coast give this man a shout he deserves our buisness!! next time he will get mine. oh sorry for the rant!! good luck with your car brother and be safe.
