Default Lousy New York roads keep my Vette home

Maybe I'm crazy, or just need to vent.
I'm planning a 100 mile trip today to southern NJ, and the "Belt parkway" in Brooklyn is the only way to go from here. If not, it's a 25+ mile detour through or around Manhattan.
The Belt is so bad from current construction, I'm afraid to take the Vette.
Holes, rough pavement and debris are really bad. Also, New York will not entertain any claims made from damage in a "construction area".
Just venting, but it's a pity that I can't with reasonable care, take my Vette on a little road trip for fear of damage from roads that we pay big tax money here to maintain.
Guess I'll have to take the truck.

Default The worst!!!!

Totally agree with you. After spending two months at a shop getting my widebody front end done, the second time I drove the car I had the misfortune of having to travel on the Long Island Expressway.....well, going Eastbound between exit 57 and 60 they have ripped the road apart in order to repave it. Traveling at 65 MPH my car took a dip that almost bottomed out the car then i got blasted by all the rocks that were being kicked up by other cars. Needless to say my bumper, top of fenders and even the top of my door got chipped.

Use the car...just go over the GWB and down either the turnpike or GSP..

Beautiful fall day and perfect for the vette..

otherwise if you got to take the belt then just travel easy on that road..

I'd definitely take the vette today or tommorow..

Thats what the car is for.

JMO HAVE FUN AND DRIVE THE VETTE!

Never let the car own you! You own the car..Use it.

In my area of upstate NY it seems like there is a heave every 50 yards. Nothing like speed bumps at 70! For the bigger ones the state erects a "Bump" sign rather than fixing the problem!

I caught a few chips there too. The very least they could do when they scrape the road for repaving is do a decent clean up job. I'd bet the idiot construction guys think it's funny.

I wouldn't worry about the chips or stones...

Go a different route but use the car today or tommorow..

its a beautiful day for a drive!

I take mine every week to the horse stables and if you saw the road I got to get the vette over ...to get to the stables you'd be laughing your @ss off..

I just go real slow over through the landmine roads and the cars fine..

Same for the wood bridge over the creek..

All I can say is the trip up there is awesome. Its fun...and as long as you can park with confidence...I say use the vehicle..

Go over the throgs neck or the Tribough (SP) bridge instead..

25 miles is 25 minutes..

thats not a big detour to enjoy the drive..

IMO

Just drive it, or you are going to find more reasons to leave it in the garage.

I sympathise with you. I lived on L.I. for 53 years and the roads in closer to the city, Belt, LIE, Northern State Pkwy were always in crappy condition. Problem was with so much congestion and bad winter weather they can hardly shut down much of the roadway to do reapirs. The one thing I do miss are the nice rides going upstate especially taking the Taconic Pkwy with all it's bends and twists. Here in FL, roads are mostly in very good condition except they are flat and straight. At least we can take out cars for a ride pretty much all year round.

Its a Corvette for God Sakes, I look for excuses to drive more miles.

Take the GCP to avoid the Belt or LIE. Take the Triboro to the Harlem River Dr to avoid the Cross Bronx Exp. Take The GWB to the NJTP. Been doing it for years

Come to Western PA. Makes NYS roads look like Southern California highways.

The Belt stinks but with reasonable care the vette can be driven with no probs. There are some detours and bumps to watch out for but if you slow down to the speed limit, or slightly under, near the lousy spots you will be fine. I take my lowered vette from southern SI to Queens via the Belt at least once per week. Do I curse and moan, yes, but it would hurt me more to make that monthly car payment just to leave the car home all of the time.

I don't know, Illinois could give you a run for your $$$.

But then with all those STIMULAS BILLIONS and SHOVEL READY projects ready to go, we'll all have roads as smooth as a billiard table any day now.
