Did I have the oldest battery here?
Car was built in Dec of 2004. Original Delco gave up the ghost this morning...clickclickclickclick.
That's 5 years and 10 months. 25k miles, daily driver, A4.
Some things I noticed:
Surprised this thing lasted as long as it did.

Some things I noticed:
- Outside door switches react instantly now. They seemed "tired" before.
- I hear the solenoid under the middle console when depressing the brake in park. Never heard that before. Wonder if it didn't have enough juice or just resetting the whole car got it working again??

Well don't know about oldest, but you certainly got your money's worth out of it!
I've never heard the solenoid under the middle console when depressing the brake but I have the MN6.

Pretty amazing. 05's were notorious for battery problems. If I remember correctly it was called the "DBS" Dead Battery Syndrom on this board.

Yeah I'd say that battery was Dead Man Walkin'.
Um...the battery gave me NO INDICATION that it was going to fail. It worked fine right up til today. Just FYI.
As a matter of fact, the doors opened, that hatch opened...no problem, even today.
Like I said, the door mechanism acted "lazy" when the car would sit overnight. Just stuff like that you don't notice because it degrades over time.
No DBS on the auto cars IIRC.

My car was built Nov '05 and battery died first time after sitting six weeks. Used the trickle for two days and all appears to be well. Good maintenance says buy a new one now and avoid the inevitable.

Mine is also a 2005, but was built in August 2005, so 5 years and 2 months and going strong, so you got me beat, but I still think anything over 5 years for a stock battery is pretty good.
Over the years I've drained it a couple of times by forgetting to shift to reverse, and it got drained again when it was in the body shop getting its Z06 body panels, but through it all, it has continued to keep on cranking.
