Default Did I have the oldest battery here?

Car was built in Dec of 2004. Original Delco gave up the ghost this morning...clickclickclickclick.

That's 5 years and 10 months. 25k miles, daily driver, A4.

Some things I noticed:
  • Outside door switches react instantly now. They seemed "tired" before.
  • I hear the solenoid under the middle console when depressing the brake in park. Never heard that before. Wonder if it didn't have enough juice or just resetting the whole car got it working again??

Surprised this thing lasted as long as it did.

Well don't know about oldest, but you certainly got your money's worth out of it!

I've never heard the solenoid under the middle console when depressing the brake but I have the MN6.

My car was built September of 2004. The original battery is still going strong with no signs of quitting anytime soon.

Pretty amazing. 05's were notorious for battery problems. If I remember correctly it was called the "DBS" Dead Battery Syndrom on this board.

Yeah I'd say that battery was Dead Man Walkin'.

Um...the battery gave me NO INDICATION that it was going to fail. It worked fine right up til today. Just FYI.

As a matter of fact, the doors opened, that hatch opened...no problem, even today.

Like I said, the door mechanism acted "lazy" when the car would sit overnight. Just stuff like that you don't notice because it degrades over time.

No DBS on the auto cars IIRC.

It is labeled as a six year battery. My 06 is still going strong.

Same here. Thinking of changing it so I don't get stuck at work some night.

I probably would just to be safe. I thought the same but never got on it. Luckily mine was dead in my garage, although it could have occurred anywhere. It's cheap insurance for sure.

It's a stretch to call 4k miles per year a daily driver unless every place you go is really close. Did you use a battery tender?

2005 A-4 36,000+ miles built November 2004 A-4 trans 3.15 gears still on original battery, air filter and tires.
Don't use no battery tender and not a daily driver.

Default Dbs

My car was built Nov '05 and battery died first time after sitting six weeks. Used the trickle for two days and all appears to be well. Good maintenance says buy a new one now and avoid the inevitable.

Not a Corvette, but my daily driver 2002 Grand Prix still has the original battery.
Purchased car new Nov 2001, it now has 249000 miles and still going strong.

Got the car in April of 2009 with 13k on the clock. Obviously a garage queen before I got my hands on it. Now she's driven like she was meant to be!

Mine is also a 2005, but was built in August 2005, so 5 years and 2 months and going strong, so you got me beat, but I still think anything over 5 years for a stock battery is pretty good.

Over the years I've drained it a couple of times by forgetting to shift to reverse, and it got drained again when it was in the body shop getting its Z06 body panels, but through it all, it has continued to keep on cranking.
