Probably in the GPS system as a false. That's probably cool until the day they attach a camera to it.

This is an illegal fee since you are only receiving an electronic PC / radar detector interface database update. I will be placing a stop on this fee via my credit card company.

“From: sales@escortinc.com
The website defaults to charging $4.50 for shipping on the subscription as it's an accessory order. There is no way to stop that during purchase on the website, but you can receive free shipping of the new subscription by calling our sales team at 800-964-3138.”
Its is not an illegal fee, read the website. What you're paying for is the password that is mailed to you on a sheet of paper. There is nothing illegal about that. The fact that people PAY it is extremely stupid, but again, stupid is not illegal. I don't update my db because I refuse to pay for a password that can be emailed.

While I doubt anyone here would miss a measly $4.50, it the principle of the thing. Do this 10,000 (or 100,000) times and it's pretty significant loot. Seems this is the way companies operate as of late - charge some inane amount that no one will bother to challenge and make bank.

You have no "opt out" of paying the $4.50 on their web page and no notification of the "order via a phone call to just receive the password via Email and not pay the $4.50."
I concur with REMIX above -- and it is the lack of full disclosure that gets me POed.
Verizon did this over the last few years -- charging users $1.99 each month for a service that the user never used.

No, it's $4.50 and personally, I would rather eat $4.50 than call my credit card company. I don't care about the principle of it all. I have principles too, and one of them is not wasting my time or effort to recoup $4.50 because I can't read.

That'll be $4.50, please.

I knew they charged that fee when renewing there database subscription, so I just ordered a suction cup specific mount for the 9500ix...chalked it up as a shipping charge for the mount, next....
