I'm hope you win but if he's willing to drive it like he stole it and you're on stock tires then fear AWD.

I predict he'll get a better 60' but you'll be able to run him down.

Default I have seen this comment many times about the GT-R.

Now that is a sound endorsement! Could you ever imagine saying that about a wife or girlfriend?

She looks pretty ugly in photos but dude in person she looks better.

No doubt AWD is a great advantage, but given all the other factors, weight , power-level, Vette better torque down low, so long as the OP does not bomb the launch he's got him.

That is how I think it will play out, he'll get out on the 60' but so long as the vette launches decent, at 455Rwhp, he'll run him down

Don't forget about the turbo's when you talk torque and the fact that a simple handheld/laptop tuner can up the power level quite a bit w/o you even knowing it. Be careful.

I use Cobb with my Subaru they know what they're doing.

I've run with a couple GTR's on road courses (both running with track tires and who knows what else). I don't know much about that straight line racing but from what I've seen I'd go for it but I'm not so sure I'd bet the farm. If there's any pre-race modifications you can make to help stack the deck I suggest you do it. At the least I'd have tires that hook and a decent torque converter. Let us know what happens...good luck!

There is a VW bug that does 9.32 @154.

You never know what you are up against. However, the guy still has a bug and the other guy still has a GT-R.

You can make a ugly car fast as hell. But, you can never make a ugly car look good.

And speaking from experience

All I can is you better respect these cars. And the comments about the exhaust tone are silly. A LOUD exhaust doesn't make a car any faster, at least not where I come from.

Loud exhaust does not make a car faster at all. The VW bug that does 9.32 @154 is pretty quiet. However, in the end both the VW and the GT-R are just that and, nothing special in the all around style a sports car should be. The exhaust is something we have learned to expect from a fast car. It adds something to the overall experience of a sports car but not at all a necessity.

Anyone can make any car fast. However, the combined looks & performance is just another reason the Corvette is what it is today.

I am not haten on the GTR, but lets not forget what a difference weight makes. It's not all about the HP and launch.

but since we are all so concerned about HP, read the original post, he is thinking about putting heads and intake on his car too, that will push him into the 500RWHP range easily.

OP, get a good launch and you'll get him with your current set up. add the heads/intake, and its a no brainer.
The all wheel drive on the GTR more than makes up for it's weight.

I like the GT-R. But then I had an 06 350Z. I would probably trade the 08 LS3 for one too if offered. I know the trade would never be offered, so I think I'll stay a Vette owner, which is fine.

I saw one a few weeks ago and it must have had an aftermarket exhaust on it.

It made a lot of noise and sounded pretty exotic, just about what I'd expect a warmed over ricer to sound like.

The first thing I wondered is "does he have drone inside like any kind of decent sounding noisy C6 exhaust does?"
