Seriously, who cares if the Corvette shares a radio or steering wheel with another model? These are mass-produced cars for crying out loud. What do you expect? If you don't like it, then buy something else or change it until you're happy.

I swear, some of you should be driving a Lexus! Yeah, that's right, I said it!

*mumbles* ... shares a radio...give me a break.
To answer the question, someone who isn't necessarily happy with a Vette and would rather have a Ferrari or a Porsche.

GM puts common parts from other cars on the Vette to keep their costs low and can focus on performance without increasing the price. If they didn't do this you would be paying $100K for a base model and $200K for a ZR1

I owned a C5 for 6 years before getting my '09 C6 two years ago. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and for me, the perfect car would be the '09 or later C6 with the C5 body on it. I love the performance increases and handling (steering & suspension) improvements in the C6 - which is why I bought one. But I prefer the lines of the C5. Go figure...

From most of the replies here it sounds to me like you should look for a low miles c5z Better looking and close to the same power and with some mods more. Lower cost to begin with and don't forget probably lower ins, rates also

I sold my 98coupe a little over a month ago and got a 06z 3 weeks ago so this is fresh for me. For me there was not enough difference for me to go from a c5 coupe or vert to a c6 coupe or vert. I still think the c5 looks better but time marches on and the wide body c6 grew on me. I hope I was able to help of course this is just my opinion

I really understand where you are coming from. I recently struggled withe the same choice. One of the sweetest vettes I've seen was a C5 and I have always thought they were hot. The C6 is just as stirring to me and when I was trying to decide last month I was considering a really nice 2004 C5 Vert for somewhat less money. What peushed me to the C6 was lower miles, newer hardware and technology, GM certification that was available, etc. Now that I have had my C6 for a few weeks and have put on a little over 1000 miles, I am VERY happy! Good luck with your choice!

No need to go overboard, a c6z will be fine

Not saying I don't like the c6 base, but its just a bit vanilla next to the z in looks.

I was considering a ls3/08+ but with 06 z's around the same price range..

Much more refined! I wouldn't go back.. ever! I have had them all and the transistion from C5 to C6 is the most noticeable since the C3 to C4 for me. (after the 1984 crossfire) I love my C6 and look forward to buying the next generation!

I had a 2001 C5 Torch red which was a nice ride but when the 2005 C6 came out I couldn't wait to get one which was Black what a difference from the C5, I have now just purchased my second 2010 C6 Torch Red and love it. Both were great cars but I will say the ride is much better in the C6

I had a 1999 c5 coupe, a 2001 C5 Z06 and a 2008 C6 Z51 w/NPP...

the best vehicle is the c6...great power, nice handling, good braking, more comfortable ride, less noise, roof comes off for the summer time......etc..

Guess which one I liked the best out of the three?

If you guessed the c5 z06 you nailed it. That has been my favorite car.

Is the C6 as quick? I'd say with 436hp it is...the gearing is more linear...power smoother from greater torque etc...

but as much as I enjoy the M6 C6 Z51 I own...if I could go back in time? I'd have kept my C5 Z06 when I blew the modified motor at 62k miles and just put in a stock 2002 LS6 motor and enjoyed the ride but since I can't go back in time...

I'm enjoying the very civilized Z51 C6 M6 w/npp exhaust and if GM comes out with a C7 that meets my expectations...I'll trade my gently used C6 in for one..

I am keeping this car totally stock for now...as it tops out at 190 mph....(not that I ever approach that speed) and it accelerates to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds...pulls .99 lateral g's etc...its more car than I could ever use...(although I do read about that Edelbrock supercharger with great intensity...

No matter which corvette you purchase....I would in all seriousness recommend a stock vehicle....(except for maybe that new edlebrock supercharger mod)

why? I have not had one problem with my 30k mile C6 ...over the past 3 years...and I just ordered up the GMPP warranty for another 48 months /48 thousand miles I can just enjoy the ride and not even think of spending any money for any repair that might crop up.

Cant say the same about my modified c5 z06...It was a big fat pain in the butt once I started using it as a daily driver...

It was such a pain in the butt .....that I swore off mods for the next 20 years...LOL..

I'd suggest that buying a preowned corvette off the original buyer is a smart move as opposed to a dealer..

One last thing...I was out today and I ran into a guy crusing his torch red C5 coupe and hot dam if it wasn't one great looking machine.

depending on the options ie.manual or automatic trans etc...I'd go for a manual c5 and an automatic 2006 C6...for the best values in the preowned marketplace...

Of course I'm partial to torch red in the c5....

What do I think is the best of the best? C6 z06...(again in red as its a personal preference/the black one I have now has to be washed every week which is kind of a pain even if I have it down to a wash and wax in exactly 12 minutes)

If I had not been able to afford the used C6Z I just got, I would have either kept my 01 Coupe I just sold, or I would have bought a modded C5Z. I have never liked the styling onthe C6. Sure the LS3 is great and some of the performance improvements are nice, but all in all, I still love the look of the C5.

Thank you for saying "in my opinion" because it isn't my opinion, and I have had a lot of C5's including FRC. In my opinion nothing looks a cool or menacing as a Black C6 Widebody (Z06, ZR1, hell even the fakes) driving down the road.

Rumor has it that GM has stopped making parts for the C5. The aftermarket will, of course, take up some of the slack and there's always (maybe) used parts. The C5 is a very complex car and if some parts, such as electronics, become unavailable it could be a big problem.

The C6 is a better car. I was surprised at how much difference a couple of c5 owners thought there was when they drove a C5. I personally haven't driven a C5, but I haven't heard or read anyone who had both that thought the C5 was better other than maybe they liked the looks better. Drive both and see what you think.

I replaced my 03 vert with an 09. The 09 drove so much better (acceleration, braking, shifting, suspension, steering, etc.) I thought it was a different car. I couldn't believe how much the car had improved in just a few years. Significant improvements in the interior also. But, to tell the truth, I liked the looks of the C5 better!
