Default Comfort/A.C/temp display flashing

2x's lately I have gotten in the car to go for a drive and the temperature/comfort display #'s flash off/on.. After alittle while they will stop flashing. Almost like a sensor problem. Has anybody else had this problem and what did you do to cure this. It doesn't do it every time I start the car, just random. Your help is greatly appreciated..

Nomo50 got it. It's pretty common. A flashing display is usually just the first sign of a dying unit. You can replace before it fails completely or wait until it does fail. One problem is, if you wait, will your dealer have a replacement in stock or will you have to wait a week or more and have to live without A/C?

Another issue is some members have reported here that, in warranty cases, their dealer would not replace the unit because it wasn't acting up when "they had it". So they had to wait for a complete failure then wait for a new unit to be ordered. But many members have reported that in the same situation, their dealer replaced the unit without question, whether they saw it acting up or not, presumably because these dealers have seen enough C6's with failing climate units and knew it was just a matter of time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys! I am going to contact the dealer in the a.m.. Maybe they will order the part & go ahead & replace it. It doesn't do it all the time.. Only been 2x's.. But I really don't want to wait until it totally fails. Thanks for you guys's help.. Tonya

I have a brand new one if your dealer wont do this under warranty. Let me know and I will figure out a price.

I am not sure what the difference is so will describe it this way. I have the control unit that sits in the center console, right below the radio and above the ashtray. It controls the heating and AC controls, IE temp settings, fan settings, etc. Has the two chrome ringed ***** on either side of the center LCD display. Part # 15858813.

Is that what you need?

well, last time the car did the intermittent flashing, I filmed it with my phone.. I called the dealership, they are 1 hr away. They told me if I would email the video they would see what they could do.. They agreed it was the a/c head unit.. Took the car there this am to have it replaced and all is good.. This problem didn't occur often so time will tell.. Thanks for the replys!

Cool that the dealership would accept the video as proof.

The way dealers have trouble "duplicating" problems, this sounds like the perfect idea.

worked out great for me.. The dealership said if more people would video when the car acts up it would sure make it easier on them... cuz you know how it works, the car never messes up when you take it to the dealer.. I didn't want to drive an hour away and have the problem fix itself for the time being halfway there.. so I video'd it and email'd them the video.. they accepted and ordered the part.. seems to be fixed.. time will tell...

My whole display disappears for approx. 2-3 minutes when really hot outside, along with my radio display. Same thing? Dealer can fix?

what year is your car.? mine is an 09.. not sure if that makes any difference.. but you might try to video it if you have a phone that does video. That's what I did. Then I contacted the dealer. They were very nice and excepted it.. You might give it a try. The next time your car does it take the video and contact the dealer to see if they will accept it.. Mine was only flashing with the a/c unit.. Not the radio.. but the 2 could be related.. not sure.. video it and see what your dealer says... good luck!

My 08 had the same issue....took pics of the temp display reading -19 on an 80 degree day. intermittent but couldn't turn on the a/c during these periods. After trying the sensors, they replaced the whole a/c head....done. Fortunately they accepted the pics to start then it replicated on them after the sensor swap.

Yep its toast, just a matter of time as it progressively acts up more and more often. Get it replaced under warranty.

My z06 in south fla had the issue consistently. Replaced by GMPP (I have an 06) Its a $400.00 part.

If you are talking about the HVAC control box in the center console, I have one for sale. GM part # 15858813. It was bought as part of a trouble shooting effort back in 07 and was installed for about 30 minutes max. Has since been in the box. If you are interested, PM me and we can talk.
