Default How much seat of the pants 430hp vs 505hp

I'm considering buying a new Corvette and there are alot of options since I bought my 2007 Z06. I like the new blue and I'm wondering if a convertible with 430 hp would fill my bill. I really liked the Z06 power.

Thanks for your input.

With 505 HP, I find that I have to change my pants more often.

I drove a friend's Z06 and it was very impressive. You can feel the power difference between it and my 08 Coupe. Would I buy a Z06 now though? No! I have a bad left hip so manual tranny cars are out for me and I also like to remove the roof. The Z06 also has a ready-to-race suspension which means it is not that comfortable on rough roads. F55 is nice since it allows you to put it in tour mode.

I've owned both and the difference is substantial throughout the powerband (not just peak hp).

That being said, if you want a convertible none of this matters. The stock LS3 is no slouch.

LS3's are real fast. LS7's are faster. I really don't think I would be satified with less HP, but if you like the top down you will have to go another way. Either way, it's still a great looking car that goes fast.

Great point on the suspension.

I have a convertible with the LS3 engine in it. Six speed paddle shifters, and I love it. The performance of 436 HP is plenty for me. And I love to drive with the top down. I would miss not being able to drop the top with a flick of the switch. This summer has been a delight owning a C6 convertible here in Michigan. I have driven Z06's and they scare the hell out of this old man! I love cruisin' with the top down instead!

I've driven both and it's not worth it. They are both scary fast.

Guessing the OP isn't into blowing a bunch of cash on engine mods.

Yes, I forgot to mention. There is a $20,000 difference in price between Z06 and GS.

Have you ever driven a supercharged ZO6?

When people start bringing in mods, the comparrison is no longer valid and everything goes out the window.

The OP asked simply the LS3 vs LS7.. and yes there is a substancial difference between the two. A few others have posted up the same basic response. I have driven both and wanted more power out of the box, stock so I chose a Z06. That is no way saying the LS3 is a slouch, cuz it sure is hell not, just yes there is a good bit of difference between 505HP vs 436HP.

If having the ability to take the top off is really important to you, then go for the LS3 in coupe or vert.

Tell me more about the paddle shifters.

Franktank,
You are right on my question. I will drive this car alot and I have had some fast cars so I got to feed the need.
Thanks,

Have not driven the Z06 yet, but my 436hp C6 can easily get me in way too much trouble. There's really no place to use the power around here anyway; I run out of road.

Many happy members have gone from the LS2 and LS3 to the LS7. I am one of them. Anyone gone from the LS7 to the LS3 or LS2? Are they as happy? I truly do not know the answer to these questions, but I believe this is a good way to figure an answer to yours.

I have a 505hp LS-7, and as most already know really move's. LS-3's actually aren't much slower though, and if wanting a vert for around town cruising, don't think you're going to notice much difference.

If you are worried about the power loss then get a CAI, Headers, and Tune for the LS3 and there wont be any performance difference( Noticable). I have beat every stock Z06 I have raced but I think that is because the automatic is more consistent. Oh and your car will sounds a ton better with headers as well.
