I have read alot of people say the nav was not as good as Garmin. Check this out.. It may be a great alternitive. Cheaper, better more user frindly. Please share your thoughts. What would be the downside if any?

I have an older Kenwood model, KNX5120. It has Garmin Nav and it works great. My wife already had a Garmin so it's nice not having to learn new commands.

Very difficult to find a installer. I have only seen a few aftermarket Nav's on this forum that looked good installed. Most I have seen look like a child installed the unit.

I have no issues with the stock Nav after reading the manual. Does what a Nav is supposed to do. It get you from point A to B.

I bought a Pioneer AVIC 710 BT from a forum member and installed myself. It looks stock, I'll take pics and post tomorrow. I really like the Pioneer, it has a lot of features and the price is reasonable considering how much some of these things cost.

Some people are fanatic about keeping the car stock. On resale an aftermarket nav could be good or bad for this reason.

As far as for your own use, It is a much better unit than stock at a better price.

I had a AVIC D-1 installed in the 05' and since the 05's was so new their front plate solution sucked. I finally replaced their plate with a better fitting plate, but it never looked as good as factory.

By the way, the AVIC unit was a little worse than with the factory unit I have in the 08 for accuracy. I suspect most non-dedicated GPS's are going to be inferior to units like the Garmin or the TomTom, but of course I could be wrong about that statement.

Do any of the aftermarket NAV systems work with the head up display?

I've seen other threads where members have said NO, they are not compatible with HUD.

I have been looking into this religiously, and I have not found any that claim to work. I don't want to say that it does not exist, but I have not found it. If you do, please let me know!
