At only $1,200/ea. the old coot really wanted to unload those Vette's fast. Being that they were taken from dealerships, seems he got access to the FOB's somehow. From the looks of his mug shot, looks like he really needs a rest.

The article says some alarming things:
A) He specialized in Corvettes
B) He stole > 100 of the high end sports cars
C) He stole 700K worth in his career
My math, adjusted for inflation, puts the total at 5M
The good news is he will die in prison and won't get yours
He was so bold as to steal a FBI pick-up?

I heard he got caught because he was driving 30 in a 55 zone looking through the steering wheel to see the road with his left turn signal on for 2 miles.

I guess we will never know the details - but how would you have access to that many Corvettes? I mean, if you show up at a dealer for a test drive, then the car disappears after a few days....wouldn't the police be asking for a description of everyone who touched that car lately? Sooner or later the word would be out to all the dealers....how many 71 year olds test drive Corvettes? Not likely to forget him. Did they let him take the car by himself? Although programming an extra FOB would only take a minute if you know what you are doing....salesman probably went in for a phone call or pit stop and......

No car is theft-proof.
I was thinking flat-bed and a winch since reprogramming the fob would require him showing his face in the dealership.
Either way, good riddance.

He may have just broke into the dealer and stole the fobs. Also possible he might have went into the dealership and took the fobs out of the key box while no one was paying attention. I've seen key boxes wide open just sitting in the showroom.
