Default What Price should I pay?

Hi All,

I am trying to narrow my options from three cars.
This thread of for car1.

2007 Vert
Black with Black Interor and Black Top.
18 K Miles
6 SP A/T with paddle shifters
3LT
Chrome Aluminum Wheels
Nav
Z51
OnStar

The car is being sold by a private party single owner. Has custom exhaust. What would you consider to be the buying price of the vette.

Run the car with the options on www.kbb.com and that will give you an idea of the price.

Same options I bought mine with (color difference). I got mine from a Dealer, but I paid 38 for mine. I don't know if that helps.

I did run the KBB price but the market is very different. Most cars are selling well below the KBB trade in value and I know thats what info was provided by other members on this forum. Appreciate inputs.

Not sure where you're located but I attended a cruise-in at a big Chevy dealer in E. Providence (not sure if the Forum allows me to name the dealer) last Saturday and he had a lot of 2010's with discounts of $10,000 or more off the sticker. Now that the 2011's are in production their are very good discounts to be had. Good luck with your search.

This is what comes up at KBB with those options (it seems high to me. I paid $35k for my 07 but that was two full years ago):

wow $35K 2 years back? Interesting. The owner is asking $39K based on KBB while I am trying to convince and make him realize that in current market cars are selling well below kBB trade in...

Yea, and this is what comes up for KBB trade in value.

Condition Value
Excellent
$36,475

Good
$34,675

Fair
$31,575

I wouldn't go over $35,000 for it.

$35K is the market price for these cars you suggest? The problem is most owners dont realize that and want more because they paid more... and the KBB and Edmunds are not reflecting current market conditions.

Why would you not get a black or an LS2? care to elaborate??

Ok. I see that keeping it clean and shiny is the most difficult task... I guess I must have the owner read this thread and decided for himself regarding the price and then decide.
:-D.

Black is too hot in the sun, and too hard to keep clean, been there, done that. In '08 Vettes were upgraded to the LS3, new steering, and in this case a A6 reprogram. Seeing as how you're spending at least $35K to buy a Vette anyway, I'd spend another $5K or so, and buy an '08.

I wouldn't mind spending another 5K to buy an 08 vette vert but there are not too many who are selling or willing to sell for $40k. Again most owners are basing it of KBB etc which is showing inflated pricing..

Not so true anymore..Vette have making a slow come back an now they are closer than ever to KBB...I followed this closely over the last 15 months....It is more important to find what you want rather than trying to steal one...This site is the very worse for that BS.. I dont believe in over-paying but on the other hand you will miss several very nice buys trying to screw someone out of their car!!

KBB in NY isn't even close on their trade in values, that being said they may be a little off on their private party values, that being said, depending where you live (fill in profile) go into autotrader and see what other private party sales are going for in your area, compare apples to apples. With a 2007 its probably out of warranty (unless extended). Even if you were to make a 35K offer on this car on a private sale, I would imagine you have a considerable amount of money to put down..... why dont you put that money down on a leftover 2009 or new 2010 and take a small payment for a new car? The dealers are kinda giving them away these days.....Just my thought (for what its worth)......

I did try to look at the 2010 and 2009 as well. At most the dealers are giving is $10K or $12K off on 2010 and 2009. Pretty much inovice - rebates. I wonder if dealers would even go below to just get the cars of their lot....

Not still true though. I have been able to see cars being offered to less than trade-in still. However, I just wanted to check with others if I am right.

Totally agree with Calmtguy. The '08 has so many improvements that I wouldn't consider an '07 particularly at that price. No offense to you 07 guys as I am sure your car is a blast also. You are probably nearing the end of the factory warranty also which to me would be important. The unfortunate part of dealing with an '07 seller is that the discounts back then were minimal from the average dealer and the hit he has to take is somewhat disconcerting. I also don't think that KBB pricing was realistic at least I didn't think so when I was shopping last fall.

A low mile, loaded '08 vert I believe could be had for $42-44 so why fight it? I paid 49K for a really loaded '09 vert back in Dec (MSRP 72.5K) from a dealer. At that time some '08s that I was considering were 43-46K. I know the economy was a little worse back then, deals maybe a little better, and now we are in Vette weather. But I think 10% up on his offer will be well spent and you will have a year of warranty left. There are so many cars available. Hurry up and buy one cause this is vert weather.
