Question. The TSB #07-04-20-002A I think thats right, is for changing to the Dextron LS
75w-90 with slip lock additive.
Will the dealer change this for free since it has a TSB and is making noise or will I have to pay for it, or is it even needed?
There is a vette mechanic on here from time to time that specializes in rear ends and said there is nothing wrong with it making noise and does no harm whatsoever.
I don't know.
If it is under warranty FREE for the change.

I'm not sure if it was the new fluid or the 8s, but I'm sure that a fluid change was good for the differential.

PS: Changing rear end fluid on an '05 is a b*tch.
Disagree. It was easy. Just drove to the Chevy dealer and handed them my key fob and credit card. The credit card part did hurt a bit when I got the bill, but the noise is gone.

I've heard that dealers are charging something like $125.
As I recall, 2 quarts of the Dextron cost about $25, but I'm not sure.

It's an easy job on most C6s. It's just the 2005 that has clearance issues.

That is not correct. DEXRON LS didn't become factory fill until MY2009. My son bought a late production 08 coupe (April 2008 build) and I had to change his diff fluid to AMSOIL Severe Gear. I also have a client with an early build 2008 vert that he had to go back to the dealer for a diff fluid change to DEXRON LS to stop the chatter. The only way an 08 might have DEX 6 factory fill would be if it was a near end of production year car. The announcement regarding the new DEX 6 for MY2009 came out half way thru the MY2008 production year. I made the change to AMSOIL SG in Oct 2007 months before DEX 6 was announced.

I'm leaving my 06' alone, as my 96' Z-28 had the same problem. I put in the additive and did quiet thing's down a bit, but the posi didn't lock up nearly as effective as it used to. Guess you can't have it all.

It is certainly possible that GM made the switch to DEX 6 before 08 production stopped but a dealer would not have access to that info. My son's car was built at the beginning of the 4th week in April and it had diff chatter within a few thousands of miles. Anybody with an 08 car can assume that the factory fill was the old Mr Badwrench fluid.

I have that "noise" when I back out of my driveway. I also have a MICKEY MOUSE dealership that I refuse to bring my car to for anything. Can I change the fluid by putting my Vert on jack stands and crawling underneath or does it have to be on a lift?

Look folks, if you want the noise to be GONE FOR GOOD switch to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 and Slip Lock additive. You will NOT hear any noise after that. It does not make any difference if you drive in a straight line, wavy line, backwards, sideways, or up, you will not hear any more NOISE. Never a peep out of mine in 15,000 miles since I changed to Amsoil.

For what its worth, my noises also were caused by the end links. Had the dealer replace them and it eliminated some clunk type noises as well.

~5400 miles on my 08, and it does the noise at low speed turns. Sounds like a tire rubbing the fender. My car was built late May 08, picked up at the NCM on 6/13/08. I have not swapped fluids yet, but I intend to to it myself, as I generally don't like dealerships.

I should take it out and figure 8 it a bit to see if that helps.

FYI - Dexron VI is for the auto trannies, Dexron LS for the diff.

Aftermarket fix for C6 diff chatter:
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (Product Code SVGQT)
AMSOIL Slip-Lock Differential Additive (Product Code ADATB)
AMSOIL Hand Pump (Product Code G2039)
Note: I recommend taking the tip off the fill tube - not needed and you don't want it coming off in your diff.

Though the Severe Gear comes with friction modidier already in it and I don't need extra in my 02 Z06 to prevent diff chatter, for the C6 I recommend a tube of the Slip Lock which seems to work very well at preventing diff chatter as many above have mentioned.

I woke up with some rear end noise. It stopped about an hour after I got out of bed.

My 82 Trans-AM had a similar rear end noise. The dealer put in an additive and did figure 8's. I did the same thing every 20K miles for the next 160K miles and it never came back. I sure would have thought GM would have figured out how to solve this by now.
