Would you go for it or still go for the Z06? I am still of the school that the Z06 is at least $12-$14k more for a similar GS model.

At the risk of exhuming a dead horse, to me this comes down to two things: GM not mating the LS7 to an automatic and the GS being an extremely expensive, chiefly cosmetic options package. I think both are mistakes but they're selling the hell out of the GS, which is probably why GM isn't knocking down my door asking for my opinion. I think the LS7's days are numbered in its current incarnation; the gulf between engine options got smaller and while the block will be around for some time to come (thank heaven) they're going to have to throw some research at it and it might just trickle down to lesser cars (Z28?) before we get a true replacement for a king-of-the-hill NA Vette engine.

If the LS7 was offered in a GS then it would need an aluminum frame, a better suspension/brake package, a manual transmission, and a fixed roof to handle the stress. I think we call that a Z06!
Oh yeah, and it would probably cost $12-$14K more for those upgrades!

if it was possible to put an ls7 from the factory people would definitely buy it. i already have a z06 so there wouldnt be a point for me, but the thought of a removable top or convertible coupled with an ls7 is AWESOME!!! oh well...

No really. Not without the carbon fenders and alum frame. Thing is, people love the look of the Z06, but not everyone wants the exotic materials or the extra price tag. If you had a GS with an LS7 you could have a removable top and a lower price tag.

The LS7 is a big part of what makes the Z06 unique. It should never be offered in the GS.
But IF the LS7 were a GS option, I wouldn't even consider it... money issues aside, if I wanted an LS7, I'd go for a Z06.

I think GM should consider one standard body style (GS/ZO6) coming off the line with options for powerplants, suspensions, interior appointments, etc (i.e., LS3, LS7, .....). The GS/ZO6 body style has proven to be a success among Corvette enthusiasts and the shape of Corvette performance internationally. GM could easily adopt this body style as a standard on the production line and create different levels of performance and options to appeal to every buyer.

There was a poll conducted on this subject a while back. The LS7 in stock form as I recall was in the 1% to 2% "major engine" failure catagory for those that tracked the car. I don't know if there was a similar one done for the LS3, but I would not be surprised if the numbers were similar.
To the OP's original question, no I wouldn't buy a GS or base vette with an LS7 in it because it would cost nearly the same as a Z06, and why would I want an overweight Z06 imposter?

Would rather have an option for the LSA instead. I see the Z06 as the light weight/high reving version meant mostly for the track. Whereas the GS could offer more general all purpose power that a blower gives.

If they did offer it, many a buyers would step forward and I would be one of them.
