Nightmare: private party purchase
Hi all,
I am having a nightmare here in Florida and wanted to know if Im missing something here. Also to vent if nothing else.
I purchased a nice 08 c6 from a great guy on the forum. It seems like between one thing and the other, I may have to have this car parked for about a MONTH before I can drive it!
I am unable to register it until the banks take their time! I cant even get a temp tag because I didnt take it in the rear from a dealer.
Sign and park! (when buying private party in FL)
A month !!!
Anyone had a similar experience?
Rod out!

Not sure what is going on in your situation in Florida. But normally a clear title, bill of sale, proof of insurance is all you need to register the car. What is the hang-up with your purchase, etc.

You can get it registered with a Bill of sale in FL, I have done it before, granted it was a long time ago, but I had something from the bank also..call the DMV and see what you need now. I know since 911 a lot has changed in this and DL areas.

I cant say screw the dmv even though Im insured because if johny law runs my tags he will take my car.
"One thing and the other" is that the banks drag their feet to release a lean. They also blaim it on the DMV(gov) and other banks. You would not believe how hard I have worked to sort out lies told to me by 101 bank employees that have no accountabilty for what they say to people.
I am very polite to them until I catch them blaintly lying or making me work harder than them (doing their job for them)

the rules are strict here in FL, it took me over 2 weeks to get the title as well. that's just a difficulty in buying private. The best case is the previous owner owned it outright, but that is something you would know or hopefully ask before purchasing.
As long as you have the bill of sale in the car with you, no license plate is legal for 7 days I believe. So don't park! DRIVE!!! just try not to get pulled over ;-)

ah...
What happenend to the Registration, that was paid on the car before you bought it? Did it expire? The car should still be registered somewhere... You normally have like 10 days to transfer ownership, at least here in CA you do...

Tag is license plate and reg.
I personally never would have purchased the vehicle without the seller having the title in his possesion.
This is why you are going to have to play the waiting game.
The seller got his money and you got the headaches.

If you paid money, you should have both gone to the DMV and done the title transfer. Sounds like you gave somebody the money and he now has to pay off the lein? I have never had this problem buying or selling in FL.

He had the car financed. I gave him a check(im financing) an he gave me the car. He deposited the check the very next AM. Now the banks are playing games to do the paperwork and release the lein. Money has cleared.
No lien release= no title= no tag , no registration NO cruising.
The trouble here is that I cant even get a temp tag because only dealers can offer them.
Do you have proof the note was paid off? Has the previous owner been helpful? What is the name of the bank? Once payment has been recieved it should take a week max for the bank to send out the title with the release of lein.
If certified funds for the payoff was sent to the appropriate folks at the Bank; it typically only takes a week to 10 days to receive by First Class Mail the Certificate Of Lien Release which is what you need in order to apply for a new Certificate of Title in your respective State.
I've been involved in similiar transactions and have always followed up with the original bank, credit union or lender and have never experienced a problem like you've had.
