anybody? I'm curious too since I'm seriously considering trading my '06 for an '11. Still have no idea what the difference would be. Figured I should post my confusion as well, rather than only checking the thread every day to see if anyone replied!

The purpose of the cones is to provide friction to slow down the gear, when shifting, so that the syncro "teeth" match in speed and can engage without the teeth grinding. The syncro's do the engaging, not the gear teeth(they are constant mesh). Hopefully, the new design cones will do a better job of speed matching to eliminate the nibbles/grinding that so many of us have in our TR-6060 transmissions. I believe, but not completely sure, that the transmissions purchased by Ford, and maybe Chrysler, used the carbon cones.
