Impossible deal on ZR1 - whats wrong
FINAL UPDATE:
After reporting this, I received this note from cars.com:
Quote: Using the information you provided we were able to locate the ad and have determined it not to be a legitimate listing. It has been removed as fraudulent. While we are very sorry that you encountered this unfortunate situation, we are grateful that you have taken the time to bring it to our attention.
ORIGINAL POST:
I came across an ad for a 2009 ZR1 with 11,600 miles for $48,500 and am wondering what is wrong. It's probably worth a 150 mile drive just to find out. Could there by anything other than crash damage that would keep this from being an unimaginable deal? Something must be wrong.
UPDATE
I called the phone number in the cars.com ad.
A lady answered the phone, but she knew nothing about the advertisement. I don't think she knew what a ZR1 was, but the mention of Corvette brought the reaction that it definitely was not them.
I told her to be expecting a lot of calls because there is a really low price on a really nice car.
I sent a notice to cars.com regarding the ad being suspect.
Sorry for causing any hearts to beat too fast. I was trying to be helpful. Mine was one of the hearts that was thumping even if I couldn't take advantage of this "dream deal".
Back to reality - my hunt resumes.

Not sure if it is OK to pass this along. If not, please delete the stuff that can't be given.
I couldn't afford this even if a good deal. If someone else can, here's the info.
It is on cars.com. I just checked and it is still there.
I did an advanced search.
Chevrolet, Corvette, 2009, enter zip code 63366, select 250 mile range to include the location, enter ZR1 in the other words field. You should get a 2009 ZR1 for $48,500. It comes up as 141 miles from my ZIP, but does not give the location. It does give a phone.
I'm near St. Louis, so if the cars.com 141 thing is correct, it must be in Illinois or Missouri. If someone calls to check it out, it would be interesting to hear the story.
I'm headed out of the house for church. If nobody has details on this by the time I return, I'll make a call to check this out.
UPDATE - I called. See the first post for the disappointing news.

The sellers name is Lisa. Maybe it's one of those deals where she and car-nut hubby are getting a divorce and she's trying to screw him out of his car. It's been known to happen. Maybe someone really will get an unbelievable deal.
No question that it is a ZR1.

Yes, the picture is a ZR1, if you look at the cars.com add it says ~144miles from 63366.
Sellers name is Lisa, but the phone number shows 128 Lake Rd
Easley, SC. Last name Rice with no Lisa in the 5 listings.
There is something fishy here , most listings show the town, Easley is more than 144 miles from MO and if this is a valid add you would think the $84K figure would be the correct one, however, there hasn't been any listing for a used ZR1 even with 11K miles sold that low .

I triangulated the location and it is Peoria, Il (61602). The 864 area code phone number is in western South Carolina.

Remember: people get to keep their phone numbers no matter where they travel to/move to.

I agree since LNP took effect you can port your number anywhere, however, in looking at this desirable number "0000" one would assume it was assigned initially to a business or special subscriber. Again something just isn't right. However, I might be wrong and one can get a 09 ZR1 for $48K or even $84K

We can speculate all day long what the deal is on this car. With the car reported being 150 miles away it would be worth a three hour drive to check it out to save $50,000.00, if in fact it is the real deal. If not you have had an enjoyable drive in you Corvette. I think it is too good to be true but you never know unless someone checks it out and covers all the bases.
