The car will be fine. Define "mint" that he's asking? I'd put the money into a newer car (LS3) if we're talking about the same price or close.

You didn't give specifics about the car, but I would guess an '06 coupe in excellent condition is worth upper 20's.
Not quite sure I'm getting your math. Even if it was sold in Oct 05, it won't be 5 years old till Oct 2010. More likely 4 years old about now.

It's a 2006 Daytona Sunset Orange, 2LZ, Polished Wheels and Nav. Owner is asking 53,500 for it, but told me his out the door price was 49,500 as that was his highest offer so far. However he admitted that guy wasn't real serious.

For 50k I found a VR one with 8000 miles which is a year newer. The VR one has all the same equipment.

Big difference between 800 miles and 8000 miles and 12 months
Need to compare apples to apples not apples to oranges.

Not really. The car was run some so lubrication was getting around to the seal which would more than likely prevent them from drying out as opposed to a car that wasn't driven in ten years. If it was garaged out of the elements, chances are the weatherstripping and roof seals are in great shape.

In 2008, I bought an '06 with 800 miles on it. Absolutely mint condition but only half the age at the time compared to the car being talked about. The only issue was a weak battery which I replaced. The car has been great with no sign of problems due to its limited early use.

I'd think for $49,500 you could get a new left-over '09 with 0 miles and a 5yr/100K warranty. After you put 50K on both cars the newer one will be worth more.

Is this car a vert? A Z06? For that kind of money it should be.

Now, everyone is trying to guess what this car has since the price is so damn much, i.e, convert, Z06, gold rocker panels?

List the details, MAN, and let the members really help.

He says it has the 2LZ package, therefore it's a Z06.

I'm all for paying more for the low mileage well kept car, but that seems high even to me. I'd go for a newer Z even with a few more miles for that.

Yes Sorry guys.. The guys is a 06 Daytona Orange Z06. One of only 282 ever made in that color. I was thinking of going to see it and find out if he's really serious about selling it or if he's just attached to his high price. I offered him 46k sight unseen and never heard aback from him. The car has been on Autotrader before because in his email in said he just relisted it with a new "lower" price. No idea what he was asking before his current 53,500 price.

I saw 08 Jetstream Blue Z06 in Indy for 53,000 with 10k miles.

Even though it's a 1 year color for a Z06 and pretty rare. Is an 06 DSO Z06 worth as much as an 07 or even an 08 Z06 in more common colors?

Tell him that if it is that rare and valuable, he ought have it at B-J or Mecum. This guy is dreaming.

If he wants a mint for it your better off buying a 2008 or newer for all of the improvements that were made!

So it's an 06 z with 800 miles for 53 grand.I'd see what I can get in a Z that's newer,for around that price.If you find nothing,I'd say offer 50 grand.

You could be more 'rare', being a buyer that's pay above $50k than the car is 'rare', easily in this market.

Someone made a comment awhile back that the prices in Autotrader were generally retail, and I think you'd agree.

If seller has to wait a couple of months without getting near his price, I'd imagine he'd be calling you back with the offer of $46k you made. You'd be into June, and he'd be worried about getting out of prime Vette selling season.

That should help make your decision right there. There is no comparison of a red z with 8K miles to a DSOM loaded z w/800 miles. Even if it is a year newer, one is very common with average miles, the other is somewhat rare with well below average miles. I don't think 49K is a bad price for that color, with those options and miles. I understand there is depreciation, but you would basically be saving over 20K on this car. It is basically brand new. JMO of course.

Like 100% sure?

Disagree with the police work here.

Note - manufacturers do not use old style paper gaskets that dry out, not in many years.

The low miles do not indicate whether the engine was started weekly and allowed to fully warm up. More than one high age low mileage car of which I very familiar, had this done and were fine for years after.

I would be more concerned about stuck/sticking piston rings than leaky gaskets, from experience.
