Can I convert m power top to a manual??
Guys,
I have an 05 C6 vert w 19,000 miles on it. It's on extended warrenty but they dont cover power tops. First the liner pinched and stretched. Than a part broke and the frame is now out of alignment. I have spent close to $1,000 already and have had enough. Two questions: 1. Can I rip that whole damn top of and replace it w a manual. 2. What the heck do you think a ballpark figure would be to replace it all? Thank in advance.

I think if your top is not aligned properly, you would have problems regardless of whether or not you had a power or manual mechanism. There have been very few problems related to the power top, so your experience is not typical.
I don't understand how any dealer could charge you $1,000 and still not fix this problem.

Guys,
Although your comments are quite ammusing I'd prefer a real answer. Has anyone ever converted a power top to a manual? If so how are you releasing the decklid cover now. Also, any shops online or areas you guys know of that sell full tops.

This is not a joke...its true. The basic mechanism of the power top is the same as the manual, so if its out of alignment, it doesn't matter whether its power or not. The tonneau cover has a release loop under the right side, so it can be opened anytime. Take a look on the underside of it.

You could then match parts between the power and manual tops and see what parts are different versus what are the same. I'm sure the big 3 forum OEM GM parts vendors could help you out. (Fichtner, GMPARTSHOUSE/PARTSTAXI; in alphabetic order not order of preference since all are great).
I can guarantee the first time my power top f's up I'm gonna be thinking the same thing as you.

A couple of questions to the original poster Goodwood.
Have you found a solution to your problem and is your extended warranty through GM?
I'm having top problems in that my tonneau cover will not close once the top is lowered. I dread taking it to the dealer for repair.
