Default Broken glove box latch

I have a 2007 C6 and the plastic glove box latch broke off when I tried to open it the other day. I have the GM Certified Warranty so it should be covered.

My question is can they just replace the latch or do they have to replace the entire glove box? I want the make sure the "build code plate" (not sure its proper name) remains attached inside the glove box.

I'm taking it to the dealer on Wednesday.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Chad

Same thing happened to me, I tried to open it one day..and then wtf!!
You will need another latch and key lock part.

EDIT: I take back the part about the key lock part. I ended up chipping a little piece off the side is why I had to replace mine.

Its a two minute job....no need to replace anything but the latch....BUT make sure you give them the broken one so they can transfer over the lock cylinder to the new one.

Awesome, thanks for the information. I'll be sure to give them the broken latch with the lock cylinder.

Just had my latch replaced on my '08. 5 hours total at the Dealer in 2 trips. 2.5 hours to agree that I needed a new latch and order the part then another appt. and another 2.5 hours to install the latch 17 days later. Work order showed 0.2 hours labor.

Mine broke during the test drive. The dealer even tried to charge me for breaking it, before I even purchased the car. With such a common problem it would be nice if GM upgraded the part.

Mine broke within view of the dealership right after taking possession of it. It took three days to get the new one in the shop and 30 min for them to change it out. It would be nice to see this in carbon or aluminum or at least an upgrade that fixes it.

And you bought the car from them. I would have told them where to stick the latch and the car!!!!!!

Mine broke last summer on my '08 coupe. I bought the car through a broker and took museum delivery. I called a local dealer where I will probably go if I ever need service. They actually had the part in stock. I took it in and it took about 15 minutes for the repair, under warranty, with about 10 of it being spent by the guy trying to figure out how to get lock cylinder out so it could be swapped.

Here I thought I was a complete dumba$$ for snapping mine off on the way home from picking up the car 8 months ago. Funny part is that I still haven't done anything about it since the owners manual was in the center console. I guess I will have to break down and go to the dealer.
Alright, I'm ready for the abuse for not fixing it right away..

The part is just not made very well. If you only get in there to check the manual when you need it then it should last for a while. By the way it is not the dealers fault, but rather the designers. Again I would change it for something that looked nice and that would hold up to normal use.

When mine broke, I wanted it fixed immediately since I didn't want to have to leave the glove box open. I was able to rig so it would stay shut but it would come back open. I took it to the dealer right away and can't understand how you could drive around with it broken.

No way its going to be fixed right away...very unlikely for a dealer to have one of these in stock...especially because it comes in colors also....

I can't get my glove box open to change the part. Is there a link here that shows how to change it ourselves?

Ya know, their is no excuse for GM having not upgraded the material of constuction on this part by now. I mean good grief, don't they care at all about their quality of construction image? Anyone from GM out their reading these posts? If so, how about doing something to fix this problem permanently and ASAP?
