Default LS3 Vs Muscle Cars

Just wondering how my 2008 LS3 Coupe straight from the factory would stack up on the dragstrip vs the muscle cars from the sixties straight from the factory. Original width tires, stock gearing. etc
Thanks, Jackie

I had and raced in 1965 a olds 442. It ran in the mid 13's week after week. It was factory stock with a 4 speed manual.

That is extremely fast for a 60's muscle car. I've still got every magazine I bought going back to August 1965. You'd be surprised how few cars got into the 13's back then. They just couldn't hook up, even if they had the power to get there (which most didn't).

If they have the period correct tires they don't have a chance. With decent tires they may be a little larger in your rearview.

That list is somewhat meaningless. They are not telling you how many were running on drag slicks of some sort. Also, it was almost a joke back then that many cars that were sent to magazines were not exactly stock.

Probably the most infamous example was a GTO that actually had a 421 Tri-Power in it instead of a 389. I promise you that many of those cars high on the list could not do those times with stock tires.

Like I said earlier, I still have all the magazines from back then. I have tests of 435 hp Corvettes that were in the low 14's at under 100 mph.

Yes, stock vs stock.

Just don't race for pinks at your local dragstrip... plenty of upgraded 60's muscle cars out there will easily beat a stock LS3 C6.

I guess the old saying "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick" still evokes pleasant memories for some people.

I know from seat of the pants that my 65 GTO with tri power made alot of noise and lifted up when floored but would not hold a candle to my LS3. Interesting experience yesterday, a friend in from Texas and an old mucsle car guy commented how well the vette cornered and I did not even really push it. Car remains level and he was duly impressed. FSD's with Z51 bars and tunnel plate. Really no big deal but I think we take a lot for granted with these newer cars.

What was car #50? I think this is a great list. I use to have a '63 Nova Sport Coupe, in '73, that was totally setup for the strip, with a loaded small block, and M21, and it only weighed about 2,500 lbs. Being in the low 12's was considered quick for what it was. Right from the factory, the '08 Vette is all the quick that I need.

The new cars of today will walk all over the oldies of yesteryear. Back in the 70's and 80's it was not like today in factory stock condition. The earlier older muscle cars were faster than their 70's and 80's counterparts.
