repair of door touch pad
ok, flame suit on- forgot to take photos but.....
my 08 has been getting more and more difficult to open the door (both) and sometimes I would have to depress the rubber 5-6 times to get the door open.
Someone said the switches only cost about 25.00 per pair but just wanted to try fixing it myself for fun.
anyway, took the switch apart and using sandpaper filed the greenish corrosion off the copper connector on the inside of the receiver portion of the switch-very easy area to work on since it is flat.
I also filed the male tabs on the other side of the swith (4 of them) until that were shiny.
Put the switch back together and it works better than it did originally. Awesome. It took me about 15 minutes to do both doors.
Again sorry for no photos-but man is this an easy fix.

Yeah, some good pics would be helpful as I suspect this will become an issue for everyone eventually and repairing rather than replacing might be a good idea. Cool that you fixed it yourself!

Good info thanks for sharing.

should have put some dielectric grease on the contacts prior to reassembly, to prevent further corrosion.

My 08 is still under warranty for another year. I just let the dealer handle those problems until then. The warranty was in the price of the car so why not use what I paid for.

This tends to be something that happens more in humid areas of the country.....so if you ever open it up again, put a touch of WD-40 on those contacts to prevent further corrosion.

Only one problem....
The link has lost the pictures too. Someone pulled them down or changed where they were stored.

Look at the thing your fingers press against when you open the door.
IIRC there are 3 screws that hold it in place... inspect it... for most folks, it's obvious how to replace the switch/pad.
Just be sure you do NOT let the wiring drop back into the door.
