Default OnStar Question..

In the unlikely scenario that my '09 C6Z06 is stolen I know they can track the car via GPS/Cell signals. Can OnStar send commands to the Vette's ECU to reduce engine output and slowly bring the vehicle to a stop? Just curious...

Yes. If the vehicle is moving and conditions are safe, authorities can request Stolen Vehicle Slowdown, where OnStar sends a remote signal to slow the vehicle gradually.

OnStar has been able to do this for a couple of years, but it was used for the first time about 6 months ago. HERE is the article.

So can this do this to ANY OnStar equipped vehicle, or only specific models? Again, just curious.

It began with the '09 model year.

That's what I was wondering since I hadn't heard of this feature until just recently.

Thanks!

According to the OnStar website, the Corvette does not have the Stolen Vehicle Slowdown nor Remote Engine Block, even in 2010.

If you go to the website, compare a Tahoe to the Corvette. You'll note when you click on Tahoe, it lists the Stolen Vehicle Slowdown and Remote Engine Block individually. If you click on Corvette, it does not. Some 2010's have one, but not the other.

OnStar can track the vehicle, but that's about it. Sorry. I'm willing to be proven wrong. After all, that'd be a good thing.

Not a car that is stolen very often though.....can you imagine how awful a high speed chase would be with a Z06.....?

No. Certain 2008 GM vehicles (including the Corvette) had the feature. All 2009 GM vehicles with OnStar have the feature.

You gotta love customer service...

I just called OnStar and the rep told me all OnStar equipped vehicles for 2009-2010 have "Stolen Vehicle Assistance" capabilities including ALL of the following...
Stolen Vehicle Slowdown
Remote Ignition Block
Vehicle Tracking
Someone else call and we'll take the best 2 out of 3...

Too bad they don't give a bigger discount (insurance companies). Mine saves me about $1 per month.

Interesting feature but do not depend on Onstar if your vehicle gets stolen, although it would deter the novice car thief. A device like Lojack is better option in this situation.

They'd either have to flatbed it or have a gun to your head and take your fob ... I wouldn't worry about it being stolen
