Corvette Incident
This morning I parallel parked my car on the street, as I was only going to be in my office for an hour today, and didn't want to waste a lot of time going 5 stories up to park it in a parking garage. Anyway, a dark colored Toyota Sequoia was parking in front of me, and as she was pulling in, her running board rubbed up against the driver side front bumper. She was going no more than 2 mph inching up into the space when she hit.
There are a few surface scratches, a mark on the side marker which I was able to rub off, and some surface paint transfer. Is it worth me taking it to a body shop, having them pull off the bumper and seeing if it's cracked on the inside? It was no more than a 2mph hit, and I'm pretty sure the scratches will buff out. I'd post pictures of the damage, but you would have a hard time seeing it since it's just surface scratches, and it kind of blends in.

If you don't have it checked out you'll be really pissed when damage surfaces later. I know you'd like to be the nice guy, but if you let her off the hook, it's done

Parking Damage
Get the party to write you a check for a $1000 and call it a day. Buff it out and keep on speeding. I'll give you credit I would have lost my nerve on this one. TIM$VETT

Thanks for the replies. My local Chevy dealer has a body shop, so I may take it up there and have them look at it. I was hit by a federal attorney who works 50 feet from my office, and she left a note. I got really lucky on that, and she said she would pay any charges. Her husband is an FBI agent, so I don't anticipate any problems.

I can't see any way that the bumper flexed enough to magically crack from behind without also cracking the paint. After you buff off the scratch, just be sure to eyeball the paint under some good lighting (from lots of angles) to make sure the paint didn't crack. That's all I'd be worried about.

If all you have are surface scratches that buff out and the bumper still looks as good as new, I wouldn't sweat it.

The bumper cover is urethane not fibreglass so it's designed to flex. The paint doesn't always flex the same and can spider web. The cushioning behind the bumper cover resembles styrofoam but it would take more than a 2mph impact to have any effect IMHO.

Hmm, now that I didn't know. That's good information to have. Sounds like I should have the paint inspected closer more than having the back of the bumper cover checked for cracks...

You have CRM paint. You need to check from all angles that the clear coat didn't spider crack. The bumper will flex, the clear coat does not.
If you want it perfect, the whole bumper would have to be repainted. If you can live with it, buffing is a viable option.
If there are spider cracks at certain angles in the sunlight you will be able to see them, in flat light not so much.

I would have it checked out, as they say better safe than sorry.

DEFINITELY HAVE IT CHECKED!!!!
I got into a minor fender bender and busted up the passenger side. What looked to me like a simple fender replacement turned out to be 7K worth of damage.
The inner-fender was the problem. Little bits of pressure in the wrong place tend to tear up vettes. I had a head light with some cracking... that alone was $1000.
Obviously your situation isn't as bad, but I would get it checked out. could be nothing, or.... something.
Good Luck

Maybe "They" don't expect any problems...
