Default Oil Plug

Is a magnetic plug worth doing ? Any idea if GM sells one ?

Aircraft now have a magnetic in the oil filters. I have a external magnetic for a aircraft oil filter - may stick on the car.

Likely any particles would be caught in the oil filter. Magnetic plugs are more for manual transmissions to catch gear grindings.
But I believe they are available.

You can also find them at AutoZone and Advance auto. Look for a magnetic drain plug with 12mm X 1.75mm pitch thread.

Are you positive you ordered the correct part?

The reason I ask is that Kevin, from www.partstaxi.com has the following listed in his February Specials thread:

24241872 - Magnetic Drain Plug - $14.65

Partstaxi seems to be really good on their pricing and it seems strange that you got one for basically half of their price.

There have been a few other posts here on the forum about members ordering one from their local dealer and it was the wrong one. Better double check.

This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet, a long time supporting dealer here on the Forum.

I apologize for selling the drain plug too cheap at 7.95 but that is all I want to charge for it.

Now mine is not the GM unit as they have discontinued the basic one and only offer it thru the GM Performance division and that is probably what Parts Taxi is offering. The one we have is from an aftermarket company and is actually a better quality plug than the GM one. I have sold a couple thousand of the GM ones over the last 10 years, and the one I have available is a better quality finish and the magnet is heavier than the GM unit. It uses the exact same oring type seal as the GM unit. I have sold exactly 1247 of these in the last 1 1/2 years and no one who has bought them has had a problem. I also order these in bulk which helps to get the price down.

If you want to order or have any questions give me a call at 800-234-5284 or email me at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com.

C.G. Enterprises.

They offer two (2) unique magnet materials, one much stronger than the other.

And Bob noted if you don't like just return it with no questions asked. Intersting that they were one of the forums 1 st supporter. Sounds like this is the onne to have all around better.

Lance

Now I have to ask why are air filters for the C6's so darn costly ?? maybe Bob has a low price on them ?

OMG! Maybe it's because I change oil frequently but I hardly ever find anything on my magnetic drain plug. That's a lot of crud.
