This is from a 2005
1) Remove the top plastic cover from the shift ****.
a) Put your thumb nail under the rear edge and lift up.
b) The cover will come up and rock forward to come off.
2) Remove the trigger button from the shift ****.
3) The top of the shift boot contains a plastic collar.
a) Slide the shift boot & collar down from the bottom of the shift ****.
4) Under the shift ****, there is a plastic locking collar.
a) Turn the locking collar from 12 o’clock to 1 o’clock to unlock it (it will stop turning at 1pm).
3) Remove the shift **** by pulling straight up (pull hard straight-up – it is very stiff).
4) Store the shift **** in a safe place.
I found this in another article - I haven't done it myself as mine is Standard

You ought to be able to swap out the console without having to remove the **** at all. Once you get the console loose just tilt it to one side and undo the shift boot from the console and there ya go (unless I'm forgetting something.) Removing the auto ***** can be a major pain. I'd try to work around it.

I swapped my console without having to remove the gear shift... just put it in neutral as needed to fit the console over it.

Console
After looking at a DIY post here, it looks like on an auto, the shift boot is not attached to the console. It that possible?
Working on it now.
Thanks for help.

I too have an 06, the boot is not attached to the console,. you do not need to remove it. The boot is attached to the bottom of the shift indicator. The console will lift off around it. It comes up a little easier if you put the shifter into neutral as it gives you a little more room up front....

Console
Thanks for everyones help. I completed the install and the auto boot is not attached to the console like the manual trans. Very easy install and looks fantastic. One of the best upgrades I have made. Well worth the $ 400 it cost. Thanks Parts Taxi

I received my new console from Part's Taxi last week. I'm ordering some great stuff from DSV tomorrow. My car is an A-6 and as stated here on the Forum many times it is a very frustrating job. I have all the Forum for shift know remove posts I could find. It will be several more weeks before I'm ready to take the plunge. Anything others could add would most likely help several of us along the way.
